£1500 isn,t bad, I,ve also read, on here , and elsewhere,of stupid, sums of money charged for doing it.kingstreet wrote: »I introduce to a specialist firm for estate planning.
They charge £1,500 for two wills and two trusts and handle the transfer to TiC. I've heard fees quoted of more than £2,500 for the same thing.
As well as potential IHT avoidance, the estate plan guards against care-fee claims (subject to the usual caveat about the need for care being foreseeable), creditor attack, spousal remarriage and child's marriage breakdown.
Having just gone through a couple of care home problems with my wifes brother (died) 6 weeks ago, and a friends, estate, they were stripped of all thier assets for home fees within no time at all. £800pw and that,s the cheap end of the market.
until they hit the £23k mark, then the state kicked in.
My wife is terrified of going into a home, so that,s the main reason for TIC.0 -
Hi, I removed my post, but you've quoted most of it.

I am aware of the simplicity of JT, but as you have pointed out there are a lot of advantages in TIC if you are prepared to put the legwork in. My experience is that we have always been advised to go down the TIC route, as has anybody whom I've discussed it with.
I alternate between feeling that people ought to pay their own care home fees if they have the money, and feeling sorry for people who see nearly all their capital disappear that way. This needs sorting out by government, not piecemeal planning by some individuals, with the majority blundering into the trap.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I don,t mind the paying of care, but when you have scrimped and saved, and others wasted all thier money, they get same, if not , better care than us. It,s a moot point, hopefully it won,t happen, but one never knows, just have to try and be prepared.
Don,t want to be a burden on the kids if it happens.
Done it, not nice, ,.
Time they decided on the cap, then we know what,s happening. :beer:0
