Are TESCO PAYG phones locked?

Only if the distributor did it. After manufacture, firms offering customisation services brand, rebox and flash customised firmware. It is usual for these handsets to be SIM locked, but not certain - as many slip through uncoded. Of the last 6 PAYG and sets bought, 2 were not locked in any way.

The best thing to do is try and see - you may be pleasantly surprised. If purchased from CW, it will not be sim locked.

i'm thinking of getting Sony Xperia Miro but for use abroad. Would be good if unlocked. Its in a tesco mobile box. Does this mean its locked to Tesco?

Only Tesco sell Tesco Phones.So you wouldnt get one in CW, and they are normally locked .

Yes. But they will unlock it for a fee taken out of your payg credit.

Many android phones can be unlocked for free if you do it yourself. Those that can't can be unlocked by paying £5 (ebay)
