pcn with the wrong reg number

hi all my wife has come home with a pcn for parking on a street without a permit. however they have put one letter wrong for the reg! can i get off with it? they do have our tax disc number so would they be able to trace us?

I'm pretty sure that wrong reg on a Council PCN is an automatic fail for the issuer.
Hopefully someone else will be along soon to confirm this is indeed the case.

If this is a council-issued Penalty Charge Notice (and if it is for street parking it probably is) you will be pleased to know that it is unenforceable! However that may not stop the council trying it on; if so go to peipoo!

Or if its a private parking fake ticket then ignore completely. It would help if you actually say who gave you this as the advice from a private parking fake ticket is different from a penalty charge notice from a council. Thanks

sorry, yes its a council ticket for parking on a street, who are peipoo? i did phone the council to tell them it was wrong and to say i would chalenge it but they did not have any info back and told me to ring tomorrow. i give them no info at all. can they trace me by my tax disc number and would they have taken a photo?

Please don't call councils, if they have the wrong reg number its fatal to the council , they must cancel it as its their problem, but there is one thing if its a ' l ' instead of a ' 1 ' its not likely to be cancelled, if its PCN instead PNC for example that is it game over for them.

Matters not re tax or photo .. if the ticket is filled out wrong then it is wrong ..they can't amend it after the event .IIRC

They can't do anything, even if they had a photo with a clear view of the correct VRN. DO NOT contact them again, you do not even need help from pepipoo as this is fatal to a Council PCN and they cannot re-issue it either. They are stuffed like a Christmas turkey!

What letter/number have they put and what should it be if you dont mind sharing? Just wondering with a previous poster saying some mistakes might be OK such as 1 instead of I.
