Grr, had plenty of experience of this over the years. Latest one I noticed is Carphone Warehouse - plenty of stores on our High Streets, but they do free delivery in the UK, excluding NI! First thing to ask anyone with extortionate prices (often just being passed on from the courier, yes, and especially for large or heavy items) is to ask them to use Royal Mail or ParcelForce.

Delivery to store should be free, was for me last christmas, our local City has 3 CPW's so easy enough to pick up from one of them:)

For every thing else there is amazon.
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

I have just "bought" a small item on EBay that specifically said "contact us for charges to Blah Blah Blah and BT postcodes....thing is they also say they dispatch by Royal Mail 2nd class......watch this space!

Goods arrived today, no problem whatsoever!

Bought a 10" Tablet and a few other bits, direct from China last week. It was collected in China last Friday by DHL, sent airfreight to Germany, then airfreight to UK and delivered to me on Monday.

Shipping Cost £21! I could have brought the carriage charge down to £16 if I had picked Registered Airmail, but happy to pay the extra fiver.

:( Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but be prepared for an invoice from DHL shortly, for 20% VAT plus a £10 admin fee.
I take it the sender grossly reduced the items' value on the shipping label (that's how it normally works) so you only pay VAT on that amount.

Or maybe it will have slipped through, some do!

I live in "Highlands and Islands"(inverted commas because no way are we highland nor an island). A local shopkeeper I know has much of his stock delivered to his home address in a fairly remote village with a different postcode and a lower charge. The insane thing is that the delivery van comes from the town where the shop is in the higher postage area.

Ebuyer. Legendary for their NI delivery charges for years.

I vaguely remember somebody here (years ago) creating a list of websites which charge stupid numbers for NI delivery.
Maybe we could do it again and give them the Christmas present THEY deserve..
