    .
Can anyone else name and shame online retailers who treat NI customers unfairly with regard to deliver charges?

They are using couriers rather than Royal Mail and that is why it is costing more to send to NI. Unlike Royal Mail, couriers charge extra for the flight.

I woud ask if they can send it by Royal Mail instead. Perhaps they have never made a delivery to NI and thus have not come across the problem. This used to more of a problem than it is now as many big mail order mainland companies know of the problem and will offer Royal Mail alternatives.

This does not just happen to NI but to many non-mainland destinations such as Isle of Man, Scottish Islands and Channel Islands.

Was about to order some cellophane gift bags from a company in London the other day until I discovered that the postage was £24-the items only cost £13!!!
Got a phone call the next day from them asking did I want to go ahead with the order and I told them no because of the postage costs, and the said yes that was a problem they had been having but didn't know how to resolve it...

Got the same items on eBay for only £2.10 postage:T

CAn be resolved by sending it Royal Mail. The high "postage" costs is because they are sending it courier which is usually cheaper for sending to other parts of Britain but much much deaer to send to non-mainland UK as courirs unlike Royal Mail charge for the flight.
  • I have noticed that if buying golf items from companies on the Mainland that they charge 10/15 quid regardless of what the item is. It is awful. There are loads of great offers from these companies, but this really puts me off buying...:(

I did because I knew this would be vastly cheaper and they said they use FedEx. They have delivered to NI before as I have ordered from them twice before and on each occasion they used Royal Mail. They did not respond to my further reply pointing this out so I am assuming they no longer wish to do business with NI customers for a reasonable delivery rate.

This thread dealt with it in some detail but sadly the list linked to is now out of date https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/249499

Ive just had a bidder and thought "oh no - i forgot to block NI".

My OH was quoted £65 delivery to NI on a £15 sound-dampening mat. Needless to say he didn't buy it.

Grr, had plenty of experience of this over the years. Latest one I noticed is Carphone Warehouse - plenty of stores on our High Streets, but they do free delivery in the UK, excluding NI! First thing to ask anyone with extortionate prices (often just being passed on from the courier, yes, and especially for large or heavy items) is to ask them to use Royal Mail or ParcelForce.
