Upgrade from Orange to EE but Orange want money?

Hello everyone,

like some of you, I've been patiently waiting for the "sim-only" plans to be released by EE so that I can enjoy 4G coverage on my iPhone 5 which I bought directly from Apple upon launch several weeks ago.

I am currently with Orange on the £15.50 plan which is due to end in January. I today contacted Orange and enquired in to upgrading to the EE sim-only plan which would cost £36/month, however I was told that it will cost me £21.76 to "buy-out" early.

I have been with Orange for many years and I am not trying to pull the wool over any one, but to me, asking for £21.76 when all I want is to basically extend my contract with them (as Orange and EE are the one in the same) whilst paying them more money each moth, is a little unfair I think.

What does everyone think? Am I out of line or is there something I can do?

Regards,
Mike.

you are asking to break a contract but as it's an upgrade and only a £21 fee, I expect if you kick up a fuss they may waive the fee, sad you need to do that but most people just pay the £21 so that is why they do it, they make money on people just not bothering.

Ask to speak to someone higher, it might work but as you are wanting something they have got, they know that mostly likely you will pay up in the end, or most will.

If you wanted to go to o2 then you'd expect to pay the money. Who owns the business doesn't really affect your contract, I agree, it would be nice if they did waive the fee, but as you're going to pay your contract anyway - what's the incentive for them not to charge you?
