Just sat and read through the whole of this thread, chuckling like a mad thing. Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy pins then? or seen any free samples anywhere? Doesen't seem right to actually buy one does it? :rotfl:

Walk with your knees together and as red a face as you can muster ... into the drycleaners ... ask them if they have one you can have/beg/borrow because your knicker elastic has broken ;)

You and me both Queenie , my babies are now 37 & 39 and I still have their nappy pins. I also still have a couple of old Harringtons nappies from those days that are used as cleaning/dusters as they boil up beautifully after a good cleaning session.
Am I the only one in the country with a huge box of buttons. I can't bear to throw away as they may come in handy for something. When my two garndaughters were little (they are 12 & 13 now) they spent hours sorting out my button tin into colours ect. A nice quiet rainy day pastime

Nope, I'm a button lover too  funnily enough, I mentioned that the other day on a different thread - I've even bought other button lovers button boxes from Boot Fairs to add/expand my collection :o I have some really pretty mother of pearl buttons ( :shhh: don't let any Cockneys know .. their Kings and Queens are experiencing shortages and I don't want to be burgled ;) )

Yes, all of my children have passed away many hours colour sorting, counting and threading buttons plus sed them as counters for board games if pieces were missing.

As a girl we would swap beads and buttons as a hobby - don't think they do that these days though :o Remember the spinners made from bit of string and a large button? I made one for each of the boys when they were doing WWII projects at school; the other kids were fascinated!!!! LOL

Wow yes I do ,and the four nails on an old cotton reel to do 'french' knitting.and 'five stones' bought from the little sweet shop at the end of my road for coppers .Five assorted coloured little square bricks that we had lots of rhymes for .I preferred them to the new-fangled 'jacks' with a little bouncy ball.
My we really knew how to enjoy ourselves back then .One of my friends parents were quite affluent, and she had a skipping rope that I longed for with ball bearings in the wooden handles to make the rope wind better .
My big brother made me a dolls cot from an old orange box and painted it a beautiful shade of Kharki as my Dad had 'aqquired' some army surplus paint !
All of our toys were either hand-me downs or second-hand or sometimes third or forth hand. Do you remember when Kellogs used to put masks on the back of cornflake packets and you had to cut them out .
No designer stuff for us it was school uniform taken off and hung up everyday when home from school and old clothes to play in and one outfit of 'sunday best'
No computer games, or expensive bikes to leave to rust in the garden unlike today.
Imagination was used to it's full extent in the late 1940s-50s
I can remember being terrified of 'Journey into Space' on the radio and the martians from The Red Planet. happy days though

Now that is very good. I havent got a clue where some of my buttons came from! My mum has 3 big tins full and i swear she hasnt used some since i was little (try about 15 years)

I still have some of my nappy pins, seems like a rite of passage for when you leave home to get a couple of your nappy pins from mother dearest.

Must go and find a saftey pin to attach to my coats.......... (after ive mopped up the wine splutterings after reading this post! :D )

Hey, jaybee - that's not what I would call "worrying" ... :rotfl: ... I'd be over the moon if I could remember the origin of all my buttons :D

 Come to think of it, I'd be rather chuffed if I could remember not to confuse the names of my dk's :rotfl: :o
