It happens time and time again. People shouldnt let their dogs near their babies. I wouldn't even consider keeping a dog if i had a baby.0

Babies and dogs don't mix - please don't post on here that it's the parents' fault not the dog's, and how your dog is different because you trained it properly and it was never a threat to you children when they were babies."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

New member of the pack usurping the dog who was until that point the darling of the family and received 100% of the love and attention. Very very sad situation indeed.0

Although I trust my dogs 100% with kids and babies...I would NEVER leave them alone and unsupervised with a baby or child.
Our softie dogs are, after all, animals and we can't hope to understand what goes on in their minds no matter how much we flatter ourselves that we can.0 -
Heartbreaking. My nephew is only just a month old, and when he visits my mum, the room is divided, so my nephew in his cot is on one side of a playpen, and the dog on the other. We never leave them alone together, but luckily our dog doesn't take any notice of the baby yet.
Even so, I dread to think what could happen if they're left together. As loving a dog as he is, you just never know.0 -

It IS the parents/adults fault and NOT the dogs.
The dog should not have been left alone with the baby in the first place.
You wouldnt leave a bit of steak unatended if your dog was around would you? let alone a newborn.0 -

It wasnt actually stated that they were left alone. In another article (some newspaper online - I forgot which one) had more details....it was actually a jack russel cross called PJ they believe. The family had 2 dogs - and one was described as vicious by neighbours etc.
The baby was called Harry Harper, 8 days old (if i remember right).
Someone (think it was a animal welfare person or animal behaviour - pretty sure it was something to do with animals) said something about the dog may have lunged for the baby and the grandparents and mother wouldnt really have had time to react. They may just have been speaking theoretically or they may have had some inside information (the family obviously didnt want to comment given their grief). You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Advice from the Dog's Trust about new borns and dogs
http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/_resources/resources/factsheets09/factsheetnewbaby10.pdf0 -
Personally I think it's harsh to get rid of your dog because you've had a baby. I expect part of the issue is that the dog has been living quite happily and then this baby comes along and takes all the attention away from it.
The dog was described as a biter. If you have a dog and a baby in the house, it's important that the dog is well trained and you never leave the dog and baby unsupervised.
Just had a look as the advice qetu1357 posted and there is some very good guidance there.0
