Im in my element with this thread!

I work in tea, well actually in a shop that sells leaves and teabags (not Whittards) and we've got all sorts of equipment to make leaves that bit easier for people as you do get a superior brew (all in the chemistry!) with leaves.

I can recommend a thing called a Teafuser for brewing tea leaves so you dont get ANY dust (fannings) at all in the cup, which is what puts most people off.

Hope this helps... this thread has made my day!

I'm being nosey here, but what do all of you do about cups of tea at work? Tea club? Hot drinks machine? Mr LW takes a jar of loose Earl Grey as he can drink this without milk, and he has a little infuser (from Whittards) that he puts a small amount in, just enough for his cuppa. BTW he's a tea monster - if we have to stockpile anything, I think it'd better be tea!;)

We have a tea club, £1 a week and that covers Tetley tea bags, good quality coffee beans, milk (skimmed and semi) green tea, earl grey and use of the Gaggia coffee machine that our lovely boss bought for the office and the occasional packet of biscuits.

It seems to work most of the time but there are slow payers, some just use the kettle and bring their own herbal teas or hot chocolate.

We have the occasional trip out to Costa, usually when we are fed up but the coffee machine is so good we stay in the office most of the time

We usually buy organic or fair Trade teabags, but today I glanced at a box or Organic loose tea on offer. It made me wonder whether:

    a) Loose tea has less packaging that tea bags and therefore buying it may save on waste.

    b) Loose tea might be money-saving and a better buy than teabags.

I don't just consider the price, but if I can get an equivalent tea cheaper sold loose, then I think it would be worth the palaver of straining.

Has anyone done their home-work on this one, or can offer advice?

    Hi bugeteer,

There's an earlier thread that may help:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the replies together.

Have you tried Sainsburys Basics teabags? They are Fairtrade and are only about 30p for a box of 80. I'm not sure of the exact price as it's been a while since I last stocked up on them. I'm quite fussy about my tea but after reading on here how good they were I tried them and now I drink them all the time.

I would imagine they work out cheaper than any of the loose leaf teas?

Gosh - that's good value. Sadly I don't live near a that store, but I will be on the lookout at Mr m for a similar bargain
