Tea Bags vs. Loose tea leaves

Hmm, it might be worth dropping them an email? My dad has used utterly butterly for years and recently he says it tastes just awful, so he's switched to Tesco's own. Sometimes companies change the recipes for things and don't let on - but regular users can tell.
My favourite tea is Yorkshire Tea - if you go to their website, I think you can request a sample (if not, email them and I'm sure they'll send you a few.) I find it rich and tasty - I also like Tesco Red Label, which is only about 79p for 100.0 -
Hi, if you can get it in your area try Miles Tea. They have a website as well. It is my favourite, a small family owned tea and coffee merchants based in Somerset. Sainsburys and Asda sell it in the South West area, otherwise try their website or give them a call, I am sure they would send you a sample. It's not the cheapest but we don't drink loads so I can justify it to myself!!Friday April 9th 2010 the day I become Mrs Jones!

It's funny you should say that, my DH is convinced I've swapped the tetley tea bags for inferior ones :rotfl: I haven't I must add but they definately taste weaker now. I've just switched to Yorkshire Tea.Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0

i used to always drink tetley tea. but about 4 years ago i just stopped liking it . i found it really bitter. since then i haven't even dared to try it again.
i now drink tesco premuin red label. 240 tea bags for £2.18. makes a prefect cuppa.0 -
We have the Tesco Red Label tea at home. Makes a nice strong cuppa. At work, they get in Tetleys and it never tastes as nice as my cheap red label stuff!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0

I find it really interesting that you think that Tetley teabags should all be the same. year in year out.
Surely the quality of the tea depends entirely on the quality of the crop in any given year - and variations in weather conditions, localised flooding etc, WILL make a difference.
It just goes to show that people really ARE that far removed from the food that they purchase, as demonstrated by this article http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6731659.stm
Edited to add - I don't mean this to sound horrible, it's just an observation, that people don't look at tea (as an example) as being something that grows, but as an end-product.0 -

Very very true. However, I haven't been able to make a strong cuppa using Tetley for a good long time.
I always remember a Victoria Wood sketch where someone was disgusted that milk came out of a cow and not a carton.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
me too. They`re so weak that the tea crawls out of the pot. I stopped buying them and am on pg tips special blend tea bags. In reality you can`t beat tea leaves but they`re a bit messy
re post 7. Surely the tea blenders should be changing the blends to keep a strength consistency but in reality it is about cost cutting. Like kitkats getting smaller year on year0 -
For a cracking strong pot of tea have a look in Home Bargains for
THOMSONs PUNJANA 80s for 79p !

Can you still buy loose tea and do any of you OSers use it in preference to tea bags?
Is it any cheaper and does it taste better?0
