Won a trip to South Africa+safari...but no flights!

I received a WEM today informing me that the original winner had declined and so I'd been drawn as new winner of a trip to South Africa, with stay in two 4* hotels and safari (from THIS post)

Amazing, though the flights are not included... :(

Trip needs to be booked by 30 November, we haven't formally accepted yet as we need to figure out first if we can find affordable flights and whether everything else is included (can't really afford to put in a lot of my own money after having to pay for flights... )

I'm excited, my boyfriend less. I want to go, but need advice! What to do?

It all depends if you can afford it. If you end up bankrupting yourself or getting into debt to pay for flights and extras, in my opinion, it's not worth it. Wait till the next one comes along.

    Just my thoughts

Well, I seriously don't think I would bankrupt myself... I'm turning 30 next year so was planning to go somewhere to celebrate, and this would come in handy as I'd spend only about £700 rather than flights PLUS accomodation somewhere...

I don't have debts and I'm always saving and never actually spending too much on anything really. If everything else is included, I think I could afford to spend about £700-£800 on flights...

In that case, if you could afford it, I'd go :)

Had a quick look and hopefully flights wouldn't be that expensive if you can book at a canny time of year. Go for it. We won a fab holiday (we were lucky flights were included) and had a great time, we could never have afforded it otherwise.

Well done, but only accept if you can afford it. IMO a prize isn't worth breaking the bank over. But as you're turning 30 soon it would be a nice birthday treat. Good luck :)

This was probably a low entry competition as flights are not included, so that's why you won. It was mentioned on the thread that flights were not included. I, like many others here, probably don't bother entering flightless comps as they will prove expensive to take.

I think you will decline this prize, but good luck to whatever decision you make

Sorry, but what is that supposed to mean? Can you only win low entry comps?? Doesn't this go against everything that this forum stands for? People here have won all sorts of things, you could win a comp with a million entrants, it's all down to luck....

    Thanks, hey....

Well done ozma83 - I think it is a great win!!

I also entered this comp, and would have loved to have won.

I understand why people don't enter if flights aren't included, but for me, this isn't enough to put me off. Competition wins which are all inclusive are amazing, but I also don't mind paying a bit towards it, if it is something I really want to do. I won a weekend in Scotland a month or so ago - the hotel and meals were included, but the travel wasn't. As it was in the middle of nowhere, we had to fly to Glasgow and then hire a car. (Both of which we had to pay for). We had an AMAZING time though, and I don't regret it at all.

If you can afford it, and you want to visit SA, then I say go for it!

And if you decide not to, then I will keep my fingers crossed that I win in the redraw! :rotfl:

  • One other thing .. I am not sure what is included in the prize, but if there was something you were less keen on, then maybe you could negotiate for this to be swapped for some money towards flights?

My sister won a flight to Sweden recently, and all was included except the transfer from the airport to the hotel (which was 150 quid each way). She managed to negotiate for the company to pay for this, so it is possible sometimes, you may just have to ask.

    Good luck anyway!

SA is wonderful , Normally safaris are all inclusive . I see this one is only 2 hours drive from Cape Town , so you need to factor in the cost of getting there . Food and drink in SA is very cheap

No vacinations needed and the safari is in a malaria free zone ..........although strictly speaking they are private game reserves
