How much broadband can I get?

Bit of a weird one this.

I currently have Virgin broadband at 20MB direct from cable into the house.

I then have a BT phone line that has never had broadband on it.

I also have sky TV.

(There is a defunct box from BT in the house marked ADSL v1.0, but we have never had that connected)

My BT phone number was originally a virgin one that I transferred over when I moved here - this totally confuses the broadband checkers.

Checking availability using postcode only on Samknows I get:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
BT FTTC
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Virgin Media (Cable)

Yet when I get cold called by the likes of talktalk, their system says I can only get 1-2MB speeds. But I know from friends locally that they all enjoy 10MB + whether on sky or BT or plusnet......

SO how can I make the systems see that they can provide me with decent broadband. I am currently paying £27 a month for broadband alone!

How local are your friends? Do you know how far away your BT fibre cabinet in the street is? What speed does BT Infinity say you can get?

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    Friom the BT site:
    BT Infinity
    Superfast fibre optic broadband
Great news! You are eligible for superfast BT Infinity.
    35.9Mb download
    5.9Mb upload
    BT Total Broadband
    BT Total Broadband
The speed prediction we have provided is an estimate, however download speeds can vary and the actual download speed will fall between a range. This is generally within 1-2 Mb higher or lower than your estimated speed quoted.
    Between 8.5Mb and 19.0Mb
    (Estimated speed: 15.0Mb)
Green box is at the bottom of the road - so about 100 meters away. exchange is about 1km.

Who do you want to supply you it?

With BT you have FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) which is capable of up to 80 Mbps depending.

You could also use a neighbours number to check things.
