How much broadband can I get?

Bit of a weird one this.
I currently have Virgin broadband at 20MB direct from cable into the house.
I then have a BT phone line that has never had broadband on it.
I also have sky TV.
(There is a defunct box from BT in the house marked ADSL v1.0, but we have never had that connected)
My BT phone number was originally a virgin one that I transferred over when I moved here - this totally confuses the broadband checkers.
Checking availability using postcode only on Samknows I get:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
BT FTTC
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Virgin Media (Cable)
Yet when I get cold called by the likes of talktalk, their system says I can only get 1-2MB speeds. But I know from friends locally that they all enjoy 10MB + whether on sky or BT or plusnet......
SO how can I make the systems see that they can provide me with decent broadband. I am currently paying £27 a month for broadband alone!

Who do you want to supply you it?
With BT you have FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) which is capable of up to 80 Mbps depending.
You could also use a neighbours number to check things.0
