Question - iPhone 4s and Messenging

Hi Everyone

I'm new to the world of iPhone 4s and also to the 3 network.

After having the phone for a week I finally got round to putting my contacts on it and sending out a message to 40 people just saying this in my new number blah blah blah.

A couple of days later I checked and noticed I'd been charged £10.42 for something so called 3 who advised me that the message I sent was an MMS - I'd put a : ) at the end of the message and this is what they're saying turned it into an MMS. They also said that becuase some of my contacts had iPhone's I'd been charged for using iMessenge ?!

Not happy with what they were saying I went through to their iPhone support and finally proved them wrong. I turned off WiFi, turned off MMS and sent the message which sent straight away which they said wouldn't happen if it was an MMS.

They then went away and said they'd be in touch. That was 4 days ago and I've not heard anything since. I've tried calling but keep getting told they'll be in touch and I've noticed they've applied a credit to my account but seem to be avoiding giving me a reason behind the problem.

Anyone come across this before? The message was sent to phone numbers only and contained just text. They did say something about maybe I'd sent it to a group but again I can't see how that would change anything as it still only sent as an SMS.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated as I'd hate to have to go through this every time I send a message to more than 2 people.

This definitely sounds like a Three billing issue as you can send very long texts with any amount of punctuation you like to as many people as you like on an iPhone as SMS messages. All I can suggest is you somehow managed to send some of the messages to destinations other than mobile or land line numbers, but as you're saying that's not the case, it sounds like an issue with Three. Also, iMessage is free to use as long as you have a data connection of sorts.

Guess I'll wait for them to actually speak to me about it lol
  • Not something I can offer any wisdom on but someone else was posting on here about the same issue:
