Trying to get van insurance but quoted extremely high prices - anything i can do?

I am trying to get insured on our van but i am being quoted extremely high prices. I am 26, i have been driving since Aug 2008 but always been a named driver on a policy and therefore have 0 NCD on a car or van.
The cheapest quote i can obtain direct or by comparison site is £1600. I thought insurance prices went down generally speaking after age 25 and onwards. The vehicle i want to be insured on is a MERCEDES-BENZ VITO 109 CDI 2006 2148cc Diesel. I have tried obtaining a quote on a smaller van, a citroen berlingo and still quoted £1200. I wanted to ask why you think my quotation is so high? Is it due to the 0 NCD?
Is there anything i might be able to do to reduce the quotes?
Also i may end up needing the insurance only for around 8 months, so is it better for me to pay monthly or annually as monthly works out more expensive but might save me if i have to cancel the policy further down the road

An annual policy paid by monthly instalments and cancelled after 8 months will ultimately be more expensive than the same policy paid in full as a lump sum then subsequently cancelled.
Both options will be cheaper overall than taking out monthly temporary insurance for 8 months (if that's what you meant), assuming you shop around for your best deal at the outset.0 -
Lack of NCD will be a big factor. Who is the insurer of the car you are named on. Might be worth asking them if they'll do the van as they may offer an introductory NCD.
Otherwise, your postcode may be a factor but not much you can do about that.0 -

Got it in one there. I think that's the main risk factor on commercials. Since I stopped being a shopfitter and startted being a driver, my insurance has got scary, even though I don't use the vehicle in any way shape or form for my work.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

We own a convenience store so it would be for carrying goods from cash and carry.
I am a named driver on my mothers car with Aviva. I did call them up but the person on the phone was a new start and things didn't go well. Basically i need the policy registered against the shop address (to claim as a vat deductable expense) but the van is kept overnight at our home address and they said this is not possible for them to insure - i don't know if the person just got confused.0 -
You need a correspondence address and an address where the premium is rated on.

There is no VAT payable on insurance premiums, and consequently you cannot claim any back.
Whoever told you that you could, don't pay them for any more tax advice!0 -

Without no claims it will always be expensive. After many years of claim free driving you can get 70% off.
Cancelling after 8 months will leave you in the same situaution when you want to buy your next vehixle. Only full years count.
Also if its a business or trade policy you probably wont be able to use that no claims if you buy a a car later though.
Mate got stung on that. Transferred his cars no claims to a trade policy. But when he packed it up a couple of years later. None of them would accept it back to use on a car.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
