I'd planned to host Christmas last year. We ended up not seeing family last year because Mum refused to be in the same house as my sister's new husband, and we all did our own thing in the end. I invited a German colleague to spend Christmas Day with us, and we had a fabulous time despite the oven going kaput halfway through and having to throw the blackened spuds in the garden. We got up late, watched crappy films on TV, played Trivial Pursuit, and had a real laugh, and then drove him home in the evening. One of the best Christmases we've had - no dramas apart from the oven, no need to travel miles, no pressure. I can't be doing with crackers etc and don't much like being around kids; it spoils the day for me, so I just treat Christmas as any other Sunday-type day."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000
