We usually go out for lunch Christmas eve, take the dogs for a long walk and watch Christmassy DVD's. Then on Christmas day when get up whenever we feel like it (usually about 8) open our presents, make phone calls to say thank you, give the dogs their presents and let them and the cat make a mess of the wrapping paper lol, clear up and start making lunch.
Spend some time on the computer.
Chat.
We don't have a table (no room) but we have lap trays so I usually decorate those with a place mat and cracker etc we have lunch, watch some tv and them chuck some clothes on (usually just joggers!) and then walk the dogs.
We then come back and watch even more tv and eat chocolate lol and we might play a couple of board games, my hubby will always cook and wash up!! with the condition he gets to drink and pass out on the sofa whilst i watch tv and chat to friends far away on the computer.
it's not everyones cup of tea but we like it.
this year i imagine will be spectacularly different!Everything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
Normally - we wake up together, share our gifts, cook Christmas lunch together, eat, then go to his parents (around the block) for the afternoon, then go to my mum's (an hours drive) for the evening then home again around 10-11pmish. But this year my mum isn't going to be home so it's thrown a spanner in the works. I suspect we'll still do everything as usual apart from going to my mum's... not sure what we'll do in the evening to be honest.0

we tend to get up about 8ish, shower and open pressies. we then drive round to my mums for breakfast and wish everyone happy christmas. we then drive round to his nans to wish her and his mum happy christmas. around 11ish we meet his dad and uncle in the pub for a "quick one". I then leave to go my mums for dinner, leaving him in the pub to go back to his nans for dinner with his brother and family, dad, aunts, mum nan etc.
we meet back up around 6ish at my mums for a few more drinks then home to chill out and sober up!
not great but it works, or has for the past 10 years!!!!!hi0 -
This will only be our second Christmas living together but we're following last year's pattern 'cos it worked
We'll get up about 9ish, open our presents, get washed/dressed and head out to my parents' house. We have breakfast with them and my brother and open presents. This year Christmas dinner is at my parents' so I'll give Mum a hand tidying up, setting the table etc and will probably take our dogs and theirs for walkies.
There is always at least 12 of us for Christmas dinner and we kick off about 1.30pm, do presents after lunch and then play board games, snooze, walk dogs, chat etc. its all very chilled and I love it - but its nice to come home, relax and watch tele in the evening.
We don't see his family on the day itself as they all do their own thing all over the show so we'll get round to them the weekend before or on Boxing Day.0 -

This is will be the 2nd year of doing the below as we used to go to work and then home to parents for christmas day and meet up at our house in the evening.
Last year i went with him to work checking, feeding and bedding up animals housed in doors until about 9am. Then back home for bacon sandwiches and i got our dinner on. Went to our neighbours for lunch time drinks and to watch the kiddies open their presents. The home to late lunch with all the trimmings and several puds. OH fell a sleep about 4 and left me to watch christmas telly, was blissful. Did wake up OH about 7 as i had got the cheese board out with some port, one of my fav's and thought i'd better share it.0 -
any couples on their own with no family to see we we always enjoy ourselves and the day flies by just wondered if there was anyone else like us?:footie:0

We've spent the last two years just the two of us - before that we did the whole family thing, running round to both sets of parents etc and it was nice to see them but a little exhausting. I wasn't sure how I would like it just being us two (we moved across the country and various things meant we couldn't get back for xmas) but it was actually quite nice for it just to be quiet and stressfree - we got up late-ish, opened pressies when we wanted, watched xmassy movies, ate what we felt like (I don't like a lot of traditional 'christmas' food so it was nice not to either have to force it down or feel awkward for leaving it), had quite a bit to drink and didn't have to worry about getting home
This year I am going back to spend it with family (my grandma has been very ill this year and would like to spend xmas with her) and am thinking it's going to be a bit odd going back to chaos (albeit very organised chaos!) again.0 -
We have a ball and are so relieved to have it as "our" family day. It has taken a while for parents to accept this...why can you not be a family unit without children???
OH usually works Christmas eve, so I have little party snacks for dinner.
On the day we get up, have champagne and smoked salmon breakfast... Go for a walk (hard this year as first without our dog). Have a Christmas lunch (turkey wellington!) and open gifts with the Queens SPeech.
Then watch telly and nap...
This year will be a miracle. OH is not working Christmas and neither am I. First time in 14 years! Woo Hoo! And hope to be fostering a dog...NOT a NEWBIE!
