Joint account, signing cheques

If I open a joint current account with my partner will the bank send us two cheque books or just one in our joint names? If the latter is correct can either of us sign a cheque or will we both have to sign? (and then again on the back along with address). Thanks.

HSBC sends two. With regard to signing, it depends on whether the account is set up as either signature or both to sign.0

My husband and I have a Co-op current account. We have a joint cheque book but only one signature is needed for the cheques.

It depends on what you ask for when the account is opened.
I meant with all the meticulousness re security/fraud nowadays, plus aren't cheques sent thru the post now without it being done recorded delivery.
Actually wonder why cheques haven't been phased out yet...0 -

I don't think anybody actually looks at the signature anyway. A few years ago my girlfriend of the time picked up my chequebook by mistake and used it for a fortnight without the bank or any shops noticing that the name and signature didn't match. IIRC she had written six or seven cheques in that time.
BTW I also have a joint account chequebook that only need one of us to sign.0
