Rejected for Halifax One card... but no credit search?!

So neither of you are perfect and one is less perfect than the other.we rang Halifax, who told us we were both perfect candidates, and that we should ring Experian who they check with.
We both have experian accounts, (Scores of 980 and 971)
I'm not familiar with Halifax application systems these days.
But, in the dim and distant past, they credit scored an application (internally) first. If it failed at this stage, they didn't bother credit searching it.
Staff couldn't see what was happening, it was all automated.
Perhaps somebody's miskeyed some data. But apparently perfect credit candidates with no account relationship, multiple recent address, short time in employment etc can be declined without the need to pay for a credit search.
Who can't make a lending decision on a credit card.I've arranged a branch appointment with Halifax on Saturday, at least if we speak to a human0 -

Best you start raising a formal complaint now then as finding anyone with authority to override a decision in branch is like asking a football steward if they get to pick the team each week.0 -
If I was rejected before it reached a credit search, then the staff have lied to me.
Various members of Halifax staff looked at the application I submitted, and into our account, and said that we had passed the internal requirements. I have call recording enabled on my house phone, and asked very specific questions.
They said it was checked by Experian, but Experian say it wasn't.
So.. based on the facts, either they've lied on multiple occasions, or they've credit checked the wrong person?0 -
I need to go to the branch anyway because we want to pay a chunk of our mortgage, so it can't hurt to ask while in.
I wasn't clear earlier, we got the capital one platinum after the Halifax rejection so I don't need someone to override the decision- I just want to know what happened for my own peace of mind.0 -

OH here we go another dreamer that gets knocked back then all of a sudden they get the biggest credit limit ever dished out on this forum.
We tried to help you.0 -
I have no idea what you mean. If you read my first post, I'm not asking for help getting a credit card, and I mention the capital one card at the end of my first post.
I want to know if anyone has had the experience of being rejected by Halifax, but no credit search showing up. That's what I'm confused and concerned about0 -

It just means your application was rejected before they got around to checking your credit file, for whatever reason. If you query it, they'll direct you to their CRA (probably Experian), regardless of whether or not they did an actual check with them. They won't give you the actual reason.0 -
Thanks for posting Gromitt, with the responses I've received it sounds like that's what happened- I just have no experience with credit rejection, and assumed that they always credit check you no matter what.0
