Who then pay the postman. It's no secret that there would be far fewer postmen doing the rounds if junk mail was made illegal.
My own postman said that he could complete his round in a couple of hours if it was not for all the junk.

So It makes money for Royal Mail
Thats like saying milk sales in Asda make money for the checkout operator
The CEO of RM has a pay package in excess of £1 million
who do you think makes real money from D2Ds?
D2Ds are meant to be delivered at a rate of 17%(ish) a day
So your postie is saying 17% of their delivery at 100% call rate is adding 1.5 hours to their round?
does that sound plausible to you?
  • Custardy what are you trying to say ?
I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

There is a simple answer to this.

Royal Mail get paid for delivering this rubbish so if everyone stuffed it back in the Post Box and it starts costing them money to separate it at the sorting office they will have to re-think their methods .

    Not really
what would you do if RM stopped delivering them(they won't),whilst the other companies continued?

Exactly! What else were you going to do with the 30 seconds of your life it takes to put it in the recycling?

If Virgin want to waste their money like this, let them. It's going to be keeping someone somewher in a job. At the same time it props up Royal Mail a bit (remember how !!!!ed off everyone is when stamps go up?), and if memory serves, gives the Postman a few quid more at the end of the month for doing door-to-doors.

    not for over 2 years
  • I guess postmen don't have junk mail on their own doormat, They just bin it in their local sorting office.

I stand corrected, it's about 5 years since the old man stopped working for them.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

I get annoyed at the huge amount of junk mail I receive from Virgin. My road is NOT cabled!

I email them every now and then to ask if they will ever cable my road and they always say it is too expensive to do so. I always reply that maybe if they stopped sending out leaflets inviting me to a service that they cannot supply to me then maybe they could afford to cable my road!

Local newspapers have reported that my town will soon become the most connected town in Britain once Virgin give the town centre free wireless internet. I emailed and asked if this would mean I would get cable, as I will be part of the most connected town and I am only a mile from the centre...... Standard letter reply.... Computer says no.....
