Paypal Dispute Unauthorised payment

Hi all
Please advise. I just logged into my Paypal account and there is a dispute opened today. Someone has bought one of my items, just tonight so not posted yet. Paypal are saying that they think the payment has not been authorised by the account holder so it is on hold.
I appear to have to do something but I'm not sure what!
When I go to the resolve the problem button it gives me the option to refund. I'm happy to do so of course as the item hasn't been sent yet. But what about the buyer? Should I contact them or does Paypal or ebay do that? If they did authorise the payment will they be waiting to receive the item and not know their payment is on hold?

Sorry this is the first time I'm come across this
Thanks for any help. :A

Just refund if thats the only option and inform the buyer.

They normally give you options or tell you to wait - but if thats all they are offering you.

Thanks I'll certainly refund if Paypal tell me to. Do you know what happens about my final fees in this situation?

I was just thinking did the buyer put in this as an unauthorised payment or do Paypal look at any suspicious activity on people's accounts?

It was only a n hour of so after the the buyer bought at BIN that I got the email from Paypal so he can't be trying to keep an item I'd already sent.

The buyer couldn't have done this themselves as it would have certainly been too soon to allow it, they don't let you after at least 4 days or after their period they have put for them to post. So it must be something to do with paypal...

Yes I'll certainly do this. Just waiting for Paypal to instruct me to issue the refund.

I was just wondering if I would get my final fees back as this is a Paypal issue not ebay. I don't want to ask to cancel as I think the buyer could refuse and give me a neg. (Is that right?)

I've never come across this before. It's clearly a problem with the buyers paypal account.
    Anyone else had this problem?

I assume you are speaking to paypal and your buyer daily about this and not just holding the payment and not sending the goods?

This could be an error and you really need to do something and not just sit and wait, as it stands your buyer is able to leave you feedback and stars.

The last one I had was just some silly nonsense where the buyer had used a different address (as many do) and I managed to clarify that and get goods shipped same day. My sons also used to get this a lot as a buyer as they changed addresses due to university- but the funds left them and paypal just send these notices out to the sellers even though payment is fine.

I was under the impression a refund was your only option.

You can't just sit around and mess the buyer around. Have paypal told you to refund or not?

I'm not messing anyone around. The payment is on hold and not available to me. I've emailed the buyer twice and been in contact with and Paypal who told me not to send it!

    No response from buyer!

This sounds like it could be the same as what happened to me but from the other side, i.e. I was the buyer, not the seller.

My payment (that was authorised) was marked as suspicious, put on hold and my paypal account was limited.

The payment was released back to my paypal account yesterday and I was able to re-pay the seller today when my account was un-limited.
This all took 6 working days to process. I remained in communication with the seller and they were happy to wait for my issue to be resolved.

Not sure what would happen with feedback in your case, I would think that as the payment hasn't been completed the buyer won't be able to leave feedback yet?
