If you have built up enough NI contrubutions in the previous two tax years then you will receive contributions based JSA (about £70 a week) which is not means tested. You can claim for income based JSA and housing benefit but if you have any savings above 6k (?? not sure of exact figure) you may not get it and your business as a landlord may also come against you.
If you have a working partner who works more than 16 hours a week you will not receive income based JSA.Stercus accidit0 -
Thanks LeftieM - I am single so no worries about the working partner. Lets see what they have to say tomorrow/tuesday!
On another note, I've since found i'm probably not even eligible to claim on my mortgage repayment protector as it only applies if I live in the property. I've been paying it for years and never thought to look at it when I moved away three years ago - £700 down the drain!!!!! I can't see why they would not pay out - If I moved back to my own place out of the rented one I'd be able to claim it! Not a happy bunny!
