If someone else was paying MY housing costs, I'd know ALL about it!

    princessdon knows all about that.

Unfortunately, I am sure she is not. This is more of an anti-Benefits & Tax Credits forum.

I suggest finding help on a different website if you don't want to invoke comments from self-righteous, anti-benefit warriors.

    yeah

and there was me thinking that this website trys to help people in need by giving advice

i never new it had lots of members who take satisfation out of peoples hardship

which is what i would call princessdon's post

    and

again lighting up the chance's post on this thread also has no point other than being antagonistic

is there an moderators on the forum or does this trolling and antagonising go on unabated ?

Yep, loads of them, all ignoramuses sucked in by every word that the Daily Mail prints. There are a few who give very good advice, but that is quite rare amongst the bigoted opinions.

The moderators generally only become involved if posts are reported, otherwise, it is unabated.

I gave you a very succinct answer to your original question and then suggested that you should be aware of the difference between 2 types of benefit as you are claiming one of them. Far from being pointless, I was answering the points YOU raised.

The only ignorance I can see is from the OP, who doesn't know what benefit he is in receipt of. And yours, of course, for not realising that.

That is (supposedly) why this forum exists, to inform and help people to understand the benefits system. Self-righteous comments such as yours are unhelpful and antagonistic. If you lack the self-awareness to realise that, then you are either ignorant, or don't give a !!!!. I suspect a bit of both.

where do i say that i don't know what benefit i am on ?

actually, i mention in my first post what benefits i get (income support and housing benefit)

again your trolling and being insulting

your 1st post was succinct! true and thanks

your 2nd post was an unpleasant cheeky remark that incorrectly stated i didn't know what benefits i get !

why remark that ? why are you being insulting to me ? you don't know me but you seem to think you do

back to the point though this section that includes this paragraph

    Existing Claimants: Pre April 2008

If you haven't made any changes to your claim then you should be on a different system and not receiving the local housing allowance (LHA) benefit, so you should be unaffected by the changes. However if your circumstances change or you wish to move you will be processed under the new rules immediately, so bear this in mind before making any changes.
does this mean that private tennants housing benefit, before LHA came in to being means that they will not be having their benefit cut ?

how can there be 2 systems in place one for private tennants before 2008 that don't have to pay extra rent for extra rooms and another rule for social housing tennants before 2008 that do have to pay for extra rooms ?

isn't that being discriminatory to social housing tennants ?

or am i drunk and tired and have got the wrong end of the stick ? :D

Hi ijwia, HB claimants in the private sector have always been subject to under occupancy rules - so for example have always been penalised for extra bedrooms etc. The legislation being introduced next April brings tenants in the social sector into line with those in the private sector unfortunately.

Private sector tenants who weren't on LHA were usually on lower rents than LHA and many of them deliberately changed to the new system because it was more generous.

In the private sector, benefits have always been allocated on the appropriate size of accommodation and if this applied to you and you're under 35, you would now only be eligible for the rent in shared accommodation.
As others have explained, you will have to make up the shortfall yourself or try to transfer to more appropriate accommodation.
