bubbs, so sorry what you're going through. I'm in Northampton too, and kids school had a flooded carpark on Wednesday, but nothing like whats happening to you.

Really hope the water level goes down soon, although this rain won't help. :(

Hi, I've just stumbled on this site but I think I must be missing something. If you can buy the shopping cheaper in another store why not just buy it there? I thought all the stores only gave the difference back now. Can someone enlighten me please? Thank you.

Not everyone has all the shops near them, so it can save the trouble of them travelling to each shop indivdually.
Also Asda offer difference if they're not 10% cheaper, so good for stuff same price or cheaper in Tesco's.
Whereas Tesco's offer clubcard points, so good for stuff cheaper in Asda.

I am totally confused by exactly which vouchers/coupons Tesco are taking ! (And I reckon their staff are just as confused as me).

Before I did my shopping today I went and asked the checkout super if their T's were still taking vouchers from ASDA. (I did this cos the banners that were there last week had gone) She came back and said they hadn't heard anything to the contrary so they thought that all A's vouchers were being accepted. At the checkout, they took an A's £5 conditional spend plus a couple of APG's and didn't turn a hair. To be fair , I didn't specify exactly what vouchers I had from A's - but neither did she and they obviously have just told their checkout staff to accept A's vouchers without telling them to only take specific types.

All this trying to poach other supermarkets customers by taking other vouchers is confusing everyone and they can hardly complain if customers just hand over a batch and let the 'till' decide. It seems that SOME mainland T's are taking APG's and some are not - and its impossible to know for sure if they are really valid.

I use two T's and one that I think of as badly managed refuses to take any A mocs and the one that seems to have its house in order is happy to take the CS £5 mocs and also the APG mocs as long as they scan (ie under £10). When I mentioned it to one of the suits at the "good" store there, he said it was because they are tasked atm with increasing turnover and footfall, so the savvy manager is interested in getting people through the doors and spending - profits are an issue further down the line. A well managed store has much less "leakage" through other routes and has a good handle on their stock control, so can afford to take what is a modest hit on competitor vouchers, and will effectively manage and monitor their use in store. I got the impression that they are well aware of and tracking exactly how much turnover is down to use of competitor mocs (ie in percentage terms very little).

I do think that there is a degree of manager discretion in this, and some managers, as always, are smarter than others. Those that don't have tabs on what is happening in their store generally are scared of and will avoid change, so these may be the ones not taking competitor mocs. Although I am sure there are equally some badly managed stores where staff don't have a clue and don't really care, so will scan any mocs regardless.

Here's hoping for another wine festival, but may I request of the glitch fairy a really stonking offer on Laphroaig Quartercask? That would be very nice indeed. Cheers everybody.

Waitrose currently have a promo on offering 20% off malts. No idea if their base prices are competitive, but may be worth checking out or looking at in terms of a TPP or APG

I'm afraid there is too much to say in just a single post and no, it is not just about getting the difference back on our shopping.

Read page 1 of this thread which will give you the gist of what we are doing, then go back 10 pages or so from here and just read, read, read.

If you are prepared to put in the time and effort into reading and contributing to the elite you will find that you will save shed loads of cash in a short space of time and you will never be able to shop the way you currently do ever again.:D:D:D

    Enjoy...

TrulyMadly, have made your red onion chutney this afternoon. It tastes absolutely lovely. Do you use the standard cup measure or guesstimate? I googled the measure and got 750ml of liquid and 675ml of dry goods. It seems a bit runny (doesn't detract from the taste at all), is it trial and error? Thanks so much for posting the recipe.:T:T:T:T:T

Ooops talking of recipes :o but I've just planted myself on the sofa and the scanner is upstairs
