  • for xmas eve the food shop is sparkling Chardonnay
and appetizers cheese board , stuffed cherry tomatos , mini sandwhiches
xmas dinner is a baby turkey with apple onion herb stuffing , gravy , sprouts , potato & celeriac mash , peaches & cranberry sauce , wine followed by some nice coffee , Lindt bonbons & fruitcake
boxing day is leftovers ( for many years I used to do 6 course dinners for the 3 xmas dinners but I stopped that some years ago , do not miss it )
  • I'm having my parents, sister and her partner for Christmas Dinner so the plan is

    Smoked salmon terrine/mousse
    Turkey Soup

Turkey -hubby insists I buy a whole rather than a crown so I can make turkey soup.
Chipolatas and Streaky Bacon - to make pigs in blankets
Home Made Stuffing - still haven't decided which one
    Delia's Cranberry and Orange Relish
Parmesan coated parsnips -been very organised and have the flour/parmesan mix in the freezer already
Sea Salted hasselback potatoes - did this last year and was a change from roasted potatoes
Sprouts and Chestnuts with bacon snippets done in white wine
    Braised red cabbage and apple
Honey and maple glazed julienne carrots

Christmas Pudding - made and fermenting in cupboard
Champagne Jellies or Champagne Sorbet -again-undecided on which

Christmas Cake -made 4 weeks back and being fed weekly at the moment

I'll also make mince pies and some brie and cranberry filo parcels for nibbles at some stage.

    Red Wine
    Shloer for father and hubby
Was given 2 bottles of Ruinart Rose Champagne so I suspect mum and I will be making short work of that.

Just looking at my "undecideds" I think I should get my rear in gear or Christmas will be on me before I know it.

Having a dinner party this weekend so as soon as that is done I will get down to business!

oh forgot - have some mint snap chocolate things from Lakeland too!

I was in an Asda over the weekend (we don't get there often) but they didn't have any! Boo!

Just back from Asda and they still have some left and it's still £6

I was told on Saturday that it would only be for the weekend and it would revert to at least the previous £10 or the full £24.21

    It's the DUBOIS CARON

  • As a pregnant lady (due on boxing day) i'd say buy shloer. It looks a lot nicer than soft drinks on the christmas table, and if you give it to kiddies they feel all grown up having something that looks like wine!

Schloer white or red grape juice is what we've always had at christmas from being kids, i still love it!! I always have it at chriistmas, and it tastes exactly the same as it did 30 odd years ago!

    I will be doing........
mozarella and tomato salad for vegies with ciabatta
smoked salmon and something for carnivores
    Turkey, pork and crackling
    Roast pots
1 parsnip - yuk! Hope you appreciate this dad
peas, carrots, brocolli & cauli, sprouts, pigs in blankets, stuffing with and without sausage meat, veggie roast, bread sauce & gravy (plus veggie gravy), cranberry sauce - again yuk.
No yorkshires as that is just wrong unless with beef.
mince pies and stuff - custard, cream etc. trifle for the dried fruit-a-phobes and kids. choc cheesecake.

i would like to have an absurd amount of cheese (oh has lactose intollerance so only really buy cheddar), nice crackers, smoked almonds, posh fruit cake with extra thick marzipan. Oooh and some post dried ham and salami but having to rein in the spending this year.
In reality it will probably be a few nuts and tortillas as pre nibbles as I attack them and fill up otherwise.

    Xmas Eve

    Ham
    Mash
    Peas/ Green beans
    Parsley sauce

Somekind of baked pud - crumble, sticky toffee etc with cream/ ice cream.

If I can find the £ I will have alovely single malt to drink whilst oH and I wrap presents and finish off the last bits. if not it'll be an austins winter warmer or mulled wine.

    Xmas Day

    Breakfast
Either eggs benedict or muffins, scrambled eggs and smoked slamon
    Croissants
Poinsettia cocktials - pomegrante juice, cointeau and prosecco - drunk whilst opening the presents

    Lunch

    G&T before hand
Not sure what starter yet -maybe prawns
    Turkey
    2 stuffings
    Sausages and bacon
    parsnips
    Green beans
    Sprouts
    Carrots
    Spuds
    HM bread and cranberry sauces
We drink a lightish red with lunch

Pudding is often a pavlova or meringue roulade or hm ice cream and fruit poached in booze! Might buy a small pud for FIL
Probably have a small glass of dessert wine with pud

Cheese and biscuits - and a glass of port

Around tea time the cold meats will come back out with a stand pie, pickles/ chutneys/ fresh baked rolls (buy the part baked one!)

Nibbles left out all day on the coffee table
    Nuts
    Quality Street
    Florentines
    Jelly fruits

Muffins - either gingerbread or orange/ cranberry

Over the next few shops I am stocking up on lots of butter/ suagr/dried fruits/ chcolate flour for baking, eggs and cream for making ice cream etc. I need to check what pickels/ chutneys we have in and maybe get a few more bits. I have spirits in but will start getting mixers and fizz this week.

Butcher order will go in this weekend and OH will make the customary 6am trip to collect it all on xmas eve morning. I like it when my parents stay as dad always goes too and forces cash itno OH's hand.
