Cheap Android for child

DS keeps stealing my phone to play games on so thinking Santa might be kind to him and get him his own. Was planning to get him one for when he goes to High School next year anyway so just bringing it forward.
Any suggestions for what to get? Was thinking PAYG as he will mainly be playing Bad Piggies! Would like one that could be set up so could only dial/text certain numbers at the moment.
Thanks in advance.

OK being a bit thick here but can I do that whilst on contract? Don't want to change number etc? Plus would it notwork out cheaper to buy him one and then change phones at end of contract? Last phone I got was free and was good at time just been superceded.0 -

Yes. Buy yourself whatever phone you like, unlocked. Put your contract sim into the new phone until the end of your contact.
Get a cheap PAYG sim for child. (Look at what your network can offer as you may be able to get free calls to each other so your child would never have to pay to contact you and vice versa.) At the end of your contract you can also get yourself a sim only deal which will be much cheaper than taking out another phone contract, and at that point transfer your number to the new SIM. (You can also then look at your child's usage to make sure you're both on the best deals.)0 -

The ideal option, the child likes the handset as they keep 'nicking' it, the OP doesn't like the handset, looks like a win win to me :cool:0 -
The problem has only partly been resolved unless the OP knows exactly what new phone he/she wants now0
