By phone or in writing?
But the other driver was an independant witness for the car that your wife hit.
You ignored part of my question but hey ho.
By phone
As above poster I to would hav waved your wife through BUT not everyone will, the other car was only doing 25 and your wife should have seen him coming IMO0 -
1.
My wife didn't even get hold of his number plate (as I said, 4 kids in the back, at night...he parked across the road and walked to her). Should I ask him for it before I call the insurers [or is that somehow an admission of guilt] ?
2.
As the general consensus seems to be to inform the insurers and let them deal with it, what course of actions can I expect? How long does the whole process take?0 -
It will unfortunately be your wifes fault I think - the other car had the 'right of road' because he was on the main carriageway.
You advise your insurance company by phone, and allow them to deal with it - they will tell you whose fault it would go down to.
As for the 'busybody' - it was just a witness, in that situation I may have offered my details - often the person to blame gets very self righteous and so do their family, trying to push blame on the other driver. If I saw such an accident I'd have offered to be a witness for both sides so that the insurance companies had the option of an independent witness and the wrong person didn't get accused.0 -

What kind of car fits 4 child seats/seatbelts in the back?!
If she crossed give way lines to make her manoeuvre, then she was 100% at fault. The "people do it all the time there" is not a valid excuse. People park on double yellows all the time round here : doesn't mean it's not illegal!!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Anything wrong with texting the driver as follows:
Hi, my name is Dave my wife was involved in a car incident with you today. Please provide me your car registration number and your name and address, as I imagine my insurance company will want them. Thanks0 -

Have you never heard of an MPV?
... it's a Hyundai Trajet - 5 full size seats in the backnotanewuser wrote: »If she crossed give way lines to make her manoeuvre, then she was 100% at fault.
I think i'm going to go back to check the road markings0 -

1) It's not an admission - both parties need the vehicle details and the driver (and owner if different) details. Ideally get the insurer as well.
2) The whole process will probably run to months rather than weeks, though repairs will get done quickly.
This will all count as one claim, so see if your excess makes it cost effective to claim for your car repairs.0 -

Fair enough. Still not sure why she couldn't get out of the car.
Where did the incident happen? We can find the junction on Googleearth.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

No, but why not ring and speak to him (no chance then of him ignoring a text)
If he rants, just tell him you are putting it in the hands of the insurers, and cannot comment.0 -
