Generally, although there are quite a lot of points to be had with various offers. See here if you want all the details.
On the input side, but that's not what this thread is about. You need 100 points to get a £1 voucher. Although that can be exchanged at various multiples - up to 4x - for various other vouchers.
Yes but you implied it was overpriced as you can times your points by 4 to get the vouchers. However to get £20 cafe rouge voucher you have to spend £500 in store at tesco. No, you're missing the point.
Let's try again in baby steps:
The voucher you initially get from Tesco has a face value of £1. (Forget obsessing about how you got it, it's completely irrelevant).
So you have a £1 voucher that you can, at any time, redeem for £1 of goods in Tesco. i.e., it has a face value of £1.
However, Cafe Rouge will give you £4 worth of certain products for each £1 Tesco voucher redeemed (via an intermediate voucher).
This implies that they are making such a stonking great profit on these items that they can afford to let them go for a fraction of the normal price. The fact that they will not sell other items at such a discount reinforces the impression that the margins on what they will sell in that way are somewhat inflated.
I didn't think this was a difficult concept.

This happened to me too, I have to say I didn't notice it on the menu and only found out when I came to pay.
Slightly annoying actually as I am now left with the vouchers and there is nothing else from the menu that I would have.
Luckily they can also be used at Strada and Bella Italia.
I think the vouchers now specify which chain they have been redeemed for.
I liked the flexibility of choosing between Bella Italian or Pizza Express, occasionally Cafe Rouge. That's gone now.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

Ah yes 2013 but same old azari! You are of course missing the key point which is the financial relationship between tesco and the supplier. Unless you know how much tesco gives cafe rouge then your whole statement is as usual just idle speculation.
For anyone prepared to apply a little intelligence it is informed speculation.
We can reasonably assume that Tesco is not gratuitously subsidising these chains so the probability is that the chains are subsiding those using the vouchers. The disparity between the treatment of certain product groups allows anyone prepared to apply a little logic to make a pretty good guess as to what causes that disparity.Never let the facts get in the way of your argument
Perhaps, instead of waffling on about 'facts' (when you yourself have just made the point that it's speculation), you could come up with a plausible alternative explanation as to why Cafe Rouge are prepared to give you £4 of food for something derived from a voucher for which Tesco would give, at the most, £2 worth of product.

This is also so for Tastecard now... Cafe Rouge have excluded most dishes except main courses for such promotions. Tightening their belts all round, it would seem. :think:0 -
I use my Tesco deals for Goldsmiths, got sick of using them for meals with all sorts excluded it became a big problem as I don't get a lot of choice as it is.No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

I cannot see the point of going somewhere with vouchers and getting something cheap when you could have something 'better'.
Totally agree, we love Cafe Rouge as they cook the best steaks round here, and so the vouchers made it affordable for us to go there & take family.
If I had £5 voucher at Tesco's the best I'd get would be a raw cheap steak, at Cafe Rouge I get a delicious steak & chips all done for me!
As for limitations on the menu, it's nothing new for example it's always been that they can only be used for food & not drinks.
If in doubt with any kind of voucher anywhere always ask first before ordering or making a purchase with it - it's a no brainer really.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Can someone who is familiar with cafe rouge help me? They have a 25% discount voucher on their website but state that it excludes their set menu, specials, lunch menu and evening menu... I'm struggling to work out what it does apply to? . I'm going their for a work do so trying to suss the situation out first so as not to cause a fuss in front of colleagues!
Hope I have posted this in the right place!0 -

I've never been but from looking at their website it would seem that you can order from the main menu or the breakfast menu.
There are set menus for lunch and evening and I'd say that's what is excluded from the offer.0
