Cheapest Windows 7

  • Brand and model number?

You can buy an optical drive for £10.

It is a Netbook which does not have an optical drive by design. Buying a plug in USB optical drive would just be the same as installing anything from a USB stick.

Does it have to be Windows 7? If you have an XP licence sticker on the bottom of your laptop then you can get a legit Windows 8 upgrade for £25. Install StartIsBack for £2 and it basically becomes Windows 7 again, only with some performance improvements and faster boot and shutdown times.

Not sure I'd want to be paying double price for an older version of the OS right now.

Did you understand 'Brand name and model number' or not?
As to whether a USB optical drive will be the same as a USB Flash Drive, it's seems that it is not quite the case according to your experience.

So what you are looking for is a legal product key.

With the exception of Product Key Cards (PKC’s) distributed with COA’s, Microsoft does not distribute products keys as standalone products. If you see a listing on an auction site, online classified ad, or other online page advertising product keys for sale, it’s a good indication that the keys are likely stolen or counterfeit.

Windows 7 Professional 32-Bit SP1 manufacturer branded full installation DVD with attached genuine COA licence. Item was previously opened and comes with no packaging so technically used but has never been activated. COA removed from a machine using solvent so may be slightly creased or tatty but all activation letters are legible.

After an OEM software license has been installed on a PC, the license may not be installed on or transferred to another PC.

That is an option but I would have to use it with one of the "Start Menu" plug ins as the Netbook doesn't have a high enough resolution for the Windows 8 tile apps.

    Sending you a PM
  • Waddler Microsoft tells you that stuff all the time.. I have transfered licence keys from one computer to another several times over the years.
All Microsoft are interested in that it's not activated on more than one computer,
I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

Doesn't the netbook spec require W7 to be Starter Edn only (not Home Premium)?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • It's powerful enough for any version of Windows 7. Starter Edition is just marketing nonsense. :)
