Wireless problems....please help!

Options
I am with BT Broadband nd have a wireless home hub 3. We seem to have a dead spot in my daughters bedroom. Is there any gadget I could buy that would boost the signal in that part of the house? My router is downstairs in the living room nd her bedroom is upstairs at the other side of the house nd above the garage. Any help would be greatly appreciated nd it would put a smile back on darling daughters grumpy face lol. Thanks in advance.

A pair of homeplugs (otherwise known as powerline network adapters) .... or you could look for a wireless range extender.

I would go for the homeplugs every time.

Something like these (but there are loads of other makes)

a cheaper way would be to sign up to bt fon/wifi and log on to that instead :)

Log on where? The issue is a dead spot in the HH3 WiFi coverage and what's needed to sort that has already been answered.

A cheaper option might be to try moving the Home Hub to a different position but that may not be possible and could cause a different dead spot.

but often bt fon/wifi uses other sources other than the original homehub so if say the neighbour also has bt then it would use that source instead :)
also u get the added advantage of logging on at numerous hotspots

As I understand it BT Fon is not secure. I have the home hub 2 and also signed up for Fon but never use Fon unless I'm away from home.

then other than use a vpn the plug option is best :)

FON is aimed at use away from home and IMO is worth having - I run a FON hotspot myself as I bought a FON router to add to my network so that I could.

The chances of picking up a neighbours router when the one in the same house can't be used must be reckoned as poor and in any event I think will only offer a slow connection because it is speed limited by default quite apart from the speed drop off caused by distance.

whilst i agree with you I was just suggesting a cheap instant solution.
why would the chances of picking up a neighbours router be poor, i pick up a good btfon signal on my phone and the nearest house to me is a good 30-40feet away :0

How long is a piece of string? I see no other FON hotspots from within my house although there is one a couple of doors away. It's possible that it would work but I still think the odds are against it.

Doesn't Fon/Openzone on home hubs throttle at 500kbps too ?
