Suggest you go and see a good motor broker (not Swintons because they have a poor reputation). The broker will have access to companies that do not advertise via the aggregator sights and should be able to help you in getting a good deal.

Mum on the policy is a good idea - note that you will have a high excess because of your age/inexperience. Some companies will charge extra when you pass your test but some won't because you will have paid the proper price up front.

Pass plus is unlikely to save you much in insurance but it will give you additional tuition which is a good idea for new drivers.
Also remember that if the vehicle has any modifications at all even different wheel trims to the manufacturers standard you must tell the insurers otherwise they will void your policy in the event of an accident.

    Hi

no pass your test just giving you the example
the quicker you pass the quicker you start building up your no claims

the insurance companys will always put the cost up a bit as you are more of a risk because you will be on your own and not with some one that has more experiance

try quidco for insurance quotes (always seem to give us a good deal + cashback)

just drive safe, dont get lured into raceing and driveing over your skill level.
i did this when i was 17 crashed 3 times in the first 2 years i thought i was the best driver on the road how i was wrong
takes a long time to get your insurance down with a couple of crashes and 3 points for speeding.
