  • Thanks JustJohn

I was having a bit of a vent and got myself mixed up!

And yes it is my opinion.

I sell on ebay and charge postage to reflect as near as possible the true cost.

    True cost = what!

admin, wholesale cost of packaging or retail, postage at p.o or ppi, cost of getting item to the p.o

    ebay allows postage/admin/costs
many buyers allow - the cost of the stamp
    Sellers charge what they want

    lol

Simplest solution is only buy if you are happy with overall costs.
  • Thanks for the replies, I've left positive feedback, the item is in good condition as described, but low stars for coms, postage and dispatch.

Other feedback left for them this morning states high postage costs.

justjohn, the seller has been informed and they can block me if they want I will not be buying from them again and I don't think many other people will either. Also it is not postage/admin it is postage/packing, if they want to charge travel costs then they should include that in their start price.

This is all immaterial anyway as regardless of what we all agree on an internet forum the buyers have the power.

We , as sellers, can all slap each other on the back and consider ourselves terribly clever for adding on all sorts of 'admin' costs - but it isn't the others posting here on the thread that leave our stars.

Go read the community boards- dozens of sellers panicking that their stars mean they are near suspension and moaning that buyers shouldn't buy if they don't like the price. It doesn't work like that.

  • I had a game that had £2.99 p&p and only cost £1.10 and was wrapped in one layer of brown paper...

I would have thought £1.50 max would have been fair.

Messaged buyer and got the response "other people charge the same, so tough luck"

I did suggest using another supplier for buying brown paper and selotape from and buying some scales to work out postage before listing.

1 star for p&p and communication and nuetral feedback.

    Well deserved in my opinion!

    .

yup agree....and a good seller will compensate for a buyers stupidity.

    eg. item cost £1 + postage 75pence
stupid buyers price £1.90 free postage lol

    job done

All because of buyer power lol

another stupid thing about buyers perception of postage they never ask for a discount on items with free postage ....WHY NOT LOL . the odds on everpayment on maltiple free postage items are greater and maximize profit for sellers.

BTW going on a buyers perception, i should neg every hobby seller i buy from.

Reason being they will not be using ppi and they will not be buying packaging wholesale. So will be overcharging IN COMPARISON TO MY COSTS.
  • When buying on eBay I always total up the bid cost and the P&P cost and if I am happy overall with the price then I go for it.

However if that item then arrives at a £1 postage cost yet I paid £4 then I do get a bit miffed! Yes I am still happy with the overall price but I'm human and do feel a bit ripped off, I don't know why but I do. I will then always leave appropriate feedback, usually saying I was happy with the item though P&P was very high compared to actual costs. Then I will mark their postage star right down, I try to be 'true' so if I was happy with everything else then I mark those stars at 5.

The good seller will compensate for your illogical attitude. And item WILL cost more lol

That will just force the seller to give ebay extra fees.....and you know who's pocket thats going to come out of lol .....i am sure you can work it out lol

I sell my own stuff ( designer clothes) as a hobby, and charge a flat £2.00 for every item or slightly more if it has to go SD. I front load the starting price with the postal cost in mind. My stars were suffering for charging the actual postal cost, with no allowance for packaging, so I have to play the "game" now.
