Using a 5" Diamond Core Cutter

Options
Hi, I'm using a hired, 5" diamond core cutter next weekend to fit a kitchen fan vent. Has anyone used one before? I'm just looking for any hints or tips before the big day

Thanks

keep a good grip and don't try to force the cut. Also use the side handle. lol i used one last week and just about broke my wrist lol
  • Use a good sds drill. Do not use it on hammer. Dont try to force it through, let the drill do the work. Make sure the drill has a good clutch on it or you will break your wrist if it binds. Dust mask, goggles etc.

I also used one a few years ago to do the same job, it had a tungsten tipped drill in the centre for a pilot,it flew thru the breeze block inner wall but bounced of the hard bricks on the outer wall.in the end i stiched drilled the brick wall with a black and decker and a masonary drill, did a good job anyway.

  • you will need to drill a 10mm hole first so the centre drill (in the core cutter) goes through this hole
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Don't make the mistake I made many years ago doing the same.

I can't remember exactly what I did wrong but the bit jammed and the handle of the drill rotated hard into my jaw. I was lucky it didn't break my jaw.

I think I probably placed the bit against the wall and then started the drill rather than starting the drill before addressing the wall.

Thanks for all the info. I'm hiring from Speedy Hire so not sure if its SDS or not. Will ask all relevant questions when I pick it up
