I was told when i had my second baby after having a c-section first that i would not be allowed to go overdue as it puts a lot of pressure on your scar which can lead to ruption, i was also told that i would not be induced for the same reason, i would contact your midwife asap.

I've just qualified as a midwife. If you think that your waters have gone you should be seen in the hospital to confirm this. You don't need to wait 2 hours to see if a pad is wet, put a pad on and go in. They will do a speculum examination (the same as you have with a smear test) and can see fluid if your waters have broken.

I would call again right now and ask to go into triage to be reviewed, especially as you have scar pain. They should absolutely not refuse to see you if you suspect your waters have gone. Of course they might send you home if your waters are intact but you should be reviewed by the doctor and a plan made before that happens.

Yep, that's just the kind of language I'm talking about. It's not actually their decision. They can advise, and provide information, but ultimately the decision is yours and yours alone!!!

  • I was induced after 10 days. But the day after my due date my dad had an accident and I ended up waiting with him and A&E for hours. The nurses suggested I wait in the maternity ward instead as I would be more comfortable.

A few hours later my Dad was transfered to a ward and told he'd be in for 2 weeks. My midwife offered to induce me there and then so I could stay in the hospital with him ...

Point being, think they can be quite flexible when they feel like it!

Yes same here, at 34 weeks baby was 5lb 6 and had an estimated delivery weight of 9lb. I wish i'd have just opted for another c-section as then i wouldn't be going through all this :( Ive tried ringing all the number on my notes but each time getting the same person who just keeps repeating herself.

Then ask to speak to someone else. It is in the NICE guidelines, and no doubt your trust's policy that women need to be assessed if they think their waters have broken. You should be seen.

I would thank you a hundred times for this! (Speaking as a mother of two, both homebirths, who cooked babies for 41+6 and 41weeks.)

OP, in your circumstances I would be at the maternity ward and refuse to leave until you have been seen. Raised BP with headaches should have alarm bells ringing for midwives and medical professionals. Good luck!

Please ask for her NMC (National Midwifery Council) pin number and how to spell her surname. Then repeat your situation and remind her that she has a duty of care. (If it's easier, get your partner to do this). You may find that she changes her tune ;)

  • Hi

If you think your waters have gone my hospital would tell me to come in so they could check.

If your worried go to the hospital and they will check you out, and perhaps get things started.

my last baby was induced, much agains my instinct and protests! I 'felt' that he wasnt ready and although according to my notes I was nearly three weeks overdue he was induced........turns out he was about 6 weeks early! midwife said that I may have been pregnant and 'lost' that baby but 'caught' immediately for sprog and never had a 'bleed' in between. Happens a lot apparently! so, unless you are sure of your dates and your doctor/midwife is also certain you are overdue - I wouldnt advise requesting an induction.
btw - all the scans etc indicated that baby was overdue - it was only me who kept saying 'I dont think he is ready'!
