Unless there are complications with your pregnancy then you will need to wait till the cut off point in your local area to be induced. From being on the pregnancy thread and my own experience these tend to vary and are usually 40 + 10, 40 + 12 or 40 +14.
I would just say don't expect to be induced and have your baby really soon after, It can be a lengthy process xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

In Northern Ireland you are induced at 10 days overdue. However, if your baby is excessively big or you are suffering a lot of pain due to SPD/PGP you can ask to be induced earlier. My friend was induced at 8 days overdue (first baby), as her baby was big 9lb 11oz.
Be aware though that if you are induced when "unfavourable" (cervix high, not at all dilated) it may be unsuccessful and result in a c-section ( as happened to me at 11 days overdue.)0 -
I was overdue with both children. First one was at 2 weeks, second by 8 days. 2 weeks seemed to the cutoff point and the youngest was only 8 days because they thought I was lossing weight and therefore baby lossing weight.
I was pretty much told when they would do the induction and would have been happy to wait a little longer to see if nature took its course. Feel a bit cheated that I didn't get the mad dash to hospital in the early hours of the morning with labour pains. It was all a bit too clinical for me.0 -
seashore22 -I can agree with the feeling clinical and missing that mad dash to hospital. I have had 2 inductions and one normal labour where my waters broke naturally.
First induction was due to being 10 days overdue and second was on my due date due to large babies and really quick labours. I would have happily waited with my last one but for safety reasons I felt being in the hospital was best for me and baby. Both were back to back labours and neither baby wanted to shift round, even in labour.
Baby number 4 will be induced at the latest on my due date - once again due to the size. Obviously if this is one decides to be on the smaller side, I will happily wait for nature to take its course!
I don't think you will have much say in it unless there is a good reason. And from a personal point of view - my natural labour was a much better experience than the inductions. So hang on as long as you can!0 -
I was induced with my first the day after my due date, but only because my waters had gone the day before, and in my area they class that as risk of infection. Other than that is would have been 14days over. Those last couple of weeks are so uncomfortable. XBossymoo

Most hospitals will automatically book you in for an induction for exactly 42 weeks.
(mine was actually booked for 42+5, and I had to wait for people to give birth naturally before I got given an induction date for 42 weeks, as the maternity ward was too busy!)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
My midwives were desperate to book in an induction for me and nagged me from about 36 weeks onwards to get it booked. I am a stubborn mare and refused point blank. I was planning a home birth for one!
40 weeks came and went and no sign of DD. 5 days, 10 days, and then at 12 days midwife said I wasn't even close to going into labour, despite 3 days and nights of irregular contractions, and that holding off induction was likely to result in a dead baby (yes really).
Was so upset I agreed to go into the hospital to talk to a consultant. While there I decided we might as well get on with it. Midwife put me on a monitor which confirmed I was indeed in labour but gave me the gel anyway. 12 hours later DD was born (by forceps as I simply didn't have enough energy to get her out myself).
The NHS is too quick to tell you what you must do rather than looking at all options (IMO).
Wishing you a straightforward birth and a healthy baby, OP.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Thanks all for the reply's, my main reason for asking was my BP as risen and the past 5 days ive had severe headaches, sickness and swelling my normal mw was worried about pre eclapsia and wanted to do a sweep Friday just gone but she was called away and the stand in mw said she wont see me til end of next week.
Early hours this morning (around 4am) while in the bath i had 3 gushes of water when i was struggling to get up so unsure if this was caused by baby moving etc..
Have rang my local hospital who basically ignored everything i told them about pain in my scar from previous section and regarding the high PB and just told me to put a pad in and see if theres any signs of water after 2 hours - not sure why there would be any leaks 11 hours after the 3 gushes.
I was offered a c section but consultant promised if i had any problems or went over he would induce me as i had complications with last pregnancy due to being 14 days over.
Feel so fed up have been non stop crying all day as in so much pain and have had less than 4 hours sleep each night this week just to the painWins 2014 - ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVYXYZ

I'd be most worried about the high blood pressure and the symptoms you are getting, i cant believe a midwife would just put your appointment off. I had pre-eclampsia and i was rushed straight to the hospital and admitted for treatment.
I take it you have not been put on any treatment or even investigated by an obstetric doctor for this?
If i was you i would be up at accident and emergency getting the BP symptoms seen to and getting them to admit you for tests etc and make sure you and your baby are ok.
If you have pre-eclampsia you need inducing right away.0
