My sister says at her school it depends on length of homework (i.e small pieces ten minutes at break or after school) but if it's a project (i.e she had to write a science paper sort of thing) it's an hour possibly an hour and a half.
How long was this homework that didn't get handed in Victory??:j Tehya Baby DD 22/03/2012 :j

Thanks for all the replies:D the homework was an A4 sheet of maths problems to work out and put the answers on the sheet of paper.
No, he has not forgotten before to hand in his homework(we get a book home that we have to sign and it would have said there if he had), this was a one off, yes he handed it to the wrong maths teacher, as to why the maths teacher did not give it to the correct one, no idea, I'm sure he has loads of papers given to him and never past it on, yes it must be that school specific way of punishment.
I saw the maths homework in his bag, I knew about it, he knew about it, he did it but it all went wrong in the hand over.
Yes in December the winter dark months he either gets home on the bus or fortunately they are just running a new scheme where they forego a bit of their lunch break to leave school at 2.40 which is much better, a huge anti campaign to reinstate the 3.15pm knock off is underway but I for one hope it stays and feel the 2.40 school end works better in terms of safety.
For some unknown reason his detention starts at 3pm (giving the other kids/teachers time to get to the detention class?) until 4pm and the school is a little way from the house so yes it will be dark but he will bus it home, it was not so much the busing home it was the busing home alone, sure he is capable, just as a mother prefer him to be with his school friends en mass.
Either way thanks for the replies, yes he knows he has done wrong, not sure it was that intentional, more of an misunderstanding but yes I agree he should be punished, he will be the school is,no I do not want to interfeer in the school policies but would obviously query the length.
He will not be wanting to do that again:D0 -

It was an A4 sheet of maths that he had to answer on the actual paper, workings out etc not sure how long it was supposed to take but it was not a project or anything more like a maths workings that they did not have the time to finish in the classroom.
Still homework though.0 -
For what it's worth, I agree with victory that it seems like an excessive punishment for a relatively small mistake - my DD is at secondary school, and she's forgotten homework a few times but has been allowed to hand it in the next day with no punishment. And if the pupil has been punished, I can't help wondering if the second teacher should have been punished equally - they should either have refused to accept the homework or passed it on to their colleague, it wasn't all your son's fault and I'm sure he must be annoyed at the injustice of it all!0
