Where can I buy replacement keyboard nipples?

I have an old Medion Akoya laptop. The nipple from underneath the space bar key is missing. The nipple attaches directly to the board underneath, not to a hinge. There are 2 hinges either side of the nipple that the space bar fixes to.

I'm not sure if the nipple would be slightly higher than some, given that it does not sit on a hinge or if they are all pretty much a standard size?

I also have no clue where I might source a replacement. I've done a google search but I'm mostly getting specific hits for Apple keys which seem different.

Any suggestions please?

Maybe start by contacting Medion directly?

Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

Lenovo do lots of laptops with these rubbery devices...

Or choose the closest match from this Ebay search.

I might be wrong but I don't think the OP is talking about a trackpoint (or whatever the official name for it is), I think what they're talking about is one of the sensors below the key that registers the key press.

If that is the case then I'm not sure what to recommend as I've never had to replace one of those, only the keys or hinges. I'm not sure who it is that actually makes Medion laptops, I think it was Uniwill a while ago but no idea now - I'd try and work that out as they're more likely to offer spare parts themselves or you might find someone else selling them under the generic name.

Hi-if you are talking about the tiny 'tactile' switches they would need soldering to the pcb !!
  • ebay lists complete keyboards for about £20; it may not be viable to get or replace individual 'nipples'

Can you take one from an unused key and use that instead?

For example, how many times do you actually use the scroll lock key?

This is a small silicone rubber dome that is depressed and makes contact when a key is pressed. No soldering required. Either loose fit or use a small amount of silicone adhesive.

You can get sets of nipple, hinge and key for Apple keyboards for around a fiver but the nipples look very different to mine. (Please everyone avoid the urge to comment. :p)
