Hi
I'm new, been lurking on this forum for a couple of weeks.
My partner lost his job 2 weeks ago, we both earnt roughly the same amount so our income has been halved. We have a big mortgage which is our main concern.
We have 2 children living with us plus my step-daughters visit every other weekend. They are 3 teenagers + a 9 year old. All with big appetites!
We've looked at our budget and decided we needed to make some changes until he gets another job. We've previously had a good standard of living so I'm looking for different ways to cut corners.
I've been picking up some tips on here which is proving really useful. We used to spend between £100-£120 on an online weeklyTesco shop. We decided to visit Aldi/Lidl (5 mins down the road) and were surprised to discover the bargains in there.
I've been making a weekly meal plan around whats in the freezer/cupboards and just topped up via Lidl. We've paid roughly £60 for food since!! Halving our food budget.
My partner (bored out of his mind) has put some stuff on ebay that he's hoping to shift. We were planning on decorating our bedroom so he's using left over paint from a nother room and just bought a coloured paint for £1.34 by using his nectar points.
I've been baking this morning (haven't made a pie for years) and made soup, cookies (for lunch boxes) and all with stuff already in the cupboards.:j

Good afternoon all,
Happy birthday sistercas :bdaycake:, hope you enjoy your day.
Haven't posted on here for a few days. It's been a bit hectic.
It's very dull and it has been raining on and off all day. Airer is full and i have loads of ironing to do.
Tea tonight is burgers with wedges and salad for hubby and girls and i'm having chicken salad as i'm on a diet.
Uolypool, good news about your son. Hugs to you both.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Wellcome :j:j
I always need to lady's to join my harem :T:T
Jokeing aside,
There are many people going though tough times at the moment.
But you like them will get though it, You will reach the other side.
It may be hard, tough but you will learn things about yourslef that you never knew.
You will learn new skills that will set you up for life,
And I bet, that the changes you make and the things you learn will change your life for the better,
When you Man gets another Job, When you have sorted out all your money and you start to feel "even" again. You will not go back to your old way. You will always be looking for a bargain. You will always be thinking do I really need to buy this? You will always be trying to save money on your bills.
And you may even get the saving Bug! Building up money just In case it ever happens again.
Do remember, Its not only about saving money. cutting costs.
You and your Kids and your step kids and OH all have a life to lead. Try to build a few treats Into your budget too.
That small little treat can really give you a boost when times are tough. Id dose not have to be big. But it dose have to make you happy.
As for Aldi, Well I know some very posh wealthy people that go to my wife's church. They now shop at aldi for most everyday things. The money that they save adds up over the months. And it means that they have extra money to help the grand kids out at Uni. To treat themselves and there family,
I hope that you stop around and enjoy this thread. If there's anything you need to know, Just ask and one of these great women will be able to help.
Good Luck.
And it will work out in the end:A:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -

Hello everyone, not been on for a day or two, hope all is well with you.
Welcome to the newbies. Hugs to anyone else who feels they need or wanto one.
Busy week for me at work, glad when the clock hit 5.30 on Friday evening though not achieved much since then :-(
Went shopping with OH this morning, we are going to black tie affair on Friday next and he needed a tux. To hire for 2 nights = 150 Euro. To buy in M&S today, including shirt and bow tie 120.00 and he will have it forever. Mind you, by the time he tried on 10 trousers, jackets etc I was fit to be tied, we were in the store for approx 1.5 hours but done and now hanging in wardrobe so job done. Me, catalogue outfit, selected, bought and tried on, total time probably 20 minutes...need I say more? Did start my Christmas present shopping this morning too, couple of things bought, need to look at a list and get organised, will do that before next week and knock some more off the list.
Trying (in vain) to empty freezer for Christmas so dinner tonight started out as homemade chicken and veg soup (using almost dead veggies from the fridge) with toasted bagels, decided to add a prtion of chicken, chirizo and butterbean stew and some leftover spuds...absolutely gorgeous, some left for lunch tomorrow, clean plates all round. Can I replicate the recipe, not a chance...
Tomorrow we have GK's for the day, my DS is working all day, DDil is working nights on Saturday so we will take them early Sunday morning to give her some time to sleep...so park, early morning with their bikes, home for lunch, then Winter Fare a couple of miles away for afternoon, thats the plan, we will see what happens tomorrow. In between I need to put on wash, hoover the house out and feed the tribe...
Uolypool, I am so happy for you and your DS, the said people are getting their comeuppance and your DS is moving on, well done to you both for getting on with it, and seeing this horrible situation through.
Now sitting down with a glass of chilled white...hope to stay awake for a while but very cosy here, we will see...take care all. CaitCait, at long last signing on:rotfl:0
