Christmas Decorations?
Do you use the same ones or replace them yearly?
I have red gold and green in my lounge and dining room, and all other colours are in the kitchen, many of the decorations i have are over 20 years old.
I buy my 3 monsters a decoration each every year - when they have own trees they shall get a special box from me with the ones I have got them over the years..

When I got married my Mother gave me all the tree decs from my childhood, some are older than me and were my grandmothers, so 40 years +.
I buy one new one a year to add to them, but I don't think my kids will want them handed down as every year they ask why we can't have new matching ones. I couldn't part with my decs though as I love the memories they all have.0 -
I buy them occasionally if I see something I really like, and occasionally give away any I'm bored of or think someone else would really, really like.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

I let myself buy one new bauble or set each January
and usually make some too, then get the whole mishmash out every year. They're like old friends, aren't they? I always forget all about some of them and rediscover them with a smile. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

I've been collecting mine for around 23yrs - since separating from ex. The first year, I had a small real tree. The following year I bought an artificial one about four feet tall as I couldn't afford many decs for it.
Since then I've gradually increased the size of the tree - along with the number of decs/lights - and now I've got a 7ft one with enough decs cover it entirely because it stands in a bay window. My dgk's love to see the same decs come out each year with shouts of 'I remember that one!' Eldest dgd (14) has cheekily laid claim to quite a few of them for 'after I've gone'. I have told her that I haven't any plans to 'go anywhere' just yet ........................
.
I think the most expensive dec on the tree is probably a gilded cross with a 'mother-of-pearl' centre that cost about £5.00 from Wilkies around 6/7yrs ago.
I have to ban myself from Wilkies at this time of year - can never resist their range of christmassy stuff. Cheap as chips, but many of them are quite 'classy looking'. Last year, there were around 18 decs that didn't even get used
- will have to consider a bit of a cull this year because I'm going to have to 'downsize' my tree due to moving from a 'house with a bay' to a 2 bed flat

I buy a couple of new hanging decorations each year but still hang onto the old favourites to put up as well. I'm sure I will run out of room at some point, oh well that means two trees

I use the same decs every year and have a bit of a mooch round the sales to see if theres anything id like to add to my collection

My kids also have their own decs, I have both decs that they first made at nursery with their name and year it was made on a sticker on the thread, I also have quite a few with their names on
I cant bear to throw any of my decs away after my mother broke my heart one year, ever since I can remember she had a cheap plastic santa with a bell inside that I loved, I always took it off the tree to play with it. One year in my teens it wasnt on the tree, I asked her where it was and she said as she could now afford decent decorations she had thrown it in the bin
ive never been able to find another one and 20 years on I still look in every charity shop around this time to see if one gets donated

Im changing mine this year after using the same the last 2 years mainly because the cat thought the baubles were toys for her and also because we decorated our living room this summer so have a new colour scheme - Im hoping (as does my bank balance) that these decorations will last a bit longer than the last lot!Life is what you make it.0

Same here.
The children groan when the decs they made at school come out as they seem to like the matching, all looking perfect style.
I am not one for the 'designer' look, I like the fact that the decorations hold memories of past years.
I did give in a couple of years back and get a new angel for the top of the tree as the old one was looking rather worse for wear!0 -
I have a combination of both. We have simple colored ones that I change as and when I feel like it. Then there are special ones. Like first Christmas ones etc.
I think its nice to have ones that are like that. I love decorating my mums tree. Some of the decs she has are very old. I remember them as a child.
Thing as we do the tree there are always ones she no longer wants so I get them. Its great as she likes to buy the really expencive stuff were as im the cheap as chips 20p stuff after christmas.0 -
We have the same decorations every year, although I try to buy one new decoration every year - I find it helps add to the memories as gradually everything becomes unique. I've never been one for fashion.
