Hi
Am looking to buy my partner a new set of over ear headphones for christmas. He uses them mainly for listening to the radio. Don't really know anything about the different makes etc.
Thought I might spend around £50ish.
Any help would be fab

I rather like the Sennheiser PX100, now superceded by slightly newer version, they sound good and are very comfortable; whilst using the computer I often forget I'm wearing them, having put them on several hours earlier to listen to some news report/music.
Had them for 5-6 years, well made and take plenty of rough use.0 -
Sennheiser are one of the longest-established headphone brands around. I'm still using a pair of Sennheisers that I bought in the 1970s
I'd recommend them to anyone, anytime
Avoid Dr Dre, which are merely badge-engineered, manufactured by Monster, who had no experience in making headphones until a few years ago. They won't be making them after the end of this year, anyway, so good luck getting product support after then. See my post #14 at this thread

I've been very happy with my award winning Panasonic headphones...

I use closed over the ear headphones Superlux HD-662 for audio books and they are great, especially on the tube. They have a firm grip on my big head and can be sweaty with prolonged use. Great on cold winter days acting as ear muffs and work well with mp3 players!
Apparently the semi open Superlux HD-668 are slightly better sound. Reading around, it take a good $100+ to beat them.
The sound is apparently flat, not like like Dr Dre, so not good for bass. Google them but cost around £30.0 -
Sennheiser HD202's are great workhorses and used in edit suites - nice natural response, and only £20-odd. Don't believe spending £50 on a brand/model created or endorsed by a celebrity will get you anything better - and probably a lot worse!0

Skullcandy are quite good from personal experience, and well within your £50 price range! They might not be great style-wise though, depending on what you're looking for!0

Yip Sennheiser HD202's - got a pair BNIB for 10-99 on Ebay recently0

Will he need to listen to them in public, if not - and if your budget can stretch, I *love* my grados and they've won bunches of awards etc...

If you need portable, Sennheiser PX200-II, AKG K450, Koss Portapro.0

Sorry post#11 above this one - this is a UK forum so forum spam posts from a US-based reseller aren't really that helpful0
