Think I will go for the sennheiser ones. Are all models foldable? Think this might be handy for when going on holiday :)

The Senheisser are good HD202 if a little bass driven.

Denon ? AH 505 (old model) now AHD 510 is good, but also this AHD1100. Light easy to wear.

The Denons above do allow cups to swivel flat to head band for transportation.

I'm thrilled with my Sennheiser HD201s - lightweight, comfortable, and incredibly durable. Mine get kicked around the floor a lot and there's not a scratch on them. Great sound and a good seal so nobody else is bothered by my music. Can't beat that for under £20.

Apple headphones are very famous. I am planning to buy one.

Really? Cool! I am planning to report this spam :)

Sennheiser HD202's are great workhorses and used in edit suites - nice natural response, and only £20-odd. Don't believe spending £50 on a brand/model created or endorsed by a celebrity will get you anything better - and probably a lot worse!

errr - no there not. Trust me, as someone who does work in audio studios, HD202s do not get used - and are far from neutral. Doesnt make them bad for the price - but definately not neutral. Its actually a fair bet that "most" listeners will actually think neutral headphones are bad. They dont have emphasised bass or trebble, and you hear the mids much more. they can really show bad recordings up (including most MP3 conversions).

There is no "best" headphone eaither, as everyones ears are different and what they are looking for differs. Some want a neutral sound (which your not going to get cheaply - minimum of around £130 to even START getting close), some want hyped bass, some want open midrange. Some people will put comfort over audio fidelity - and even then for some it will be comfort of the cups while other it may be the band.

Its very difficult to get all of those things even paying £500+

So - talk to your other half about his prefernces, and stick to a decent make, and you wont go far wrong really (that is makes that specialise in headphone and microphones). Any from:

    Sennheiser
    AKG
    Audio Technica
    Beyer
    Superlux
    KRK

There are some companies that dont specialise as such that are worth looking at as well, Sony and Denon spring to mind.
  • Oh - stay away from Skull candy (very poor for the price) and Bose (ditto). Your paying for the immage.

What ever headphone you go for, buy it from reputable seller if you buy it online. There could be fake headphone around.

Video edit suites. They are great for 'good enough' naturalistic sound for ENG and most TV output. Sure, if you're mixing down the audio in a professional suite for a prime-time drama no, they're not ideal, but the OP is looking to spend under £50. I just wanted to be sure they knew they could spend £20-odd and get something significantly better than many £50 sets with celebrity endorsement, and was good enough to be used professionally (albeit not in an audio master mixing facility, which most people do not work in!)
  • Personally I would spend just a little more and grab some Grado SR60i headphones.
  • Headphones are a very personal choice.

I've had (and still have) a number of pairs of Sennheisers.

I would go and see Richer Sounds if you can get to a branch. A superb HiFi/TV retailer and try a few pairs.

Service at Richer Sound is great (no I don't work for them just a very satisfied customer). They will sort you out.
