Recommendations for good headphones please

Hi everyone,
just as the title says, I am looking for recommendations for a pair 9or two) of good headphones for my ipod.
I am just after picking myself up off the floor following my enquiry into the price of Dr Dre Headphones, they are bl**dy expensive!!
We go through headphones quite a bit, as there is currently 6 ipods, ranging from shuffle to touch on the go in our house.
I'm not looking for dirt cheap, just good enough quality at a good price.
Thanks for any help that you can give.
Linda

  • If you head over to PC world, you can plug an ipod into many of the 'on display' headphones and try them out

Personally, i think you'll get the best value buying a 'hifi' brand (Sony, Sennheiser') rather than a celebrity endorsed pair

Best in-ear headphones i've owned were by Shure (and were on special offer for £18, rather than £55)

Sennheiser have always served me well, whether for in-ear buds for the iPod, or for over-ear style for the proper HiFi.

I'm still using their HD430s that I bought in the late 1970s....
  • Sennheiser cx300 are the very good IMO and genuine ones are available from £15 online, son has HD 202s that are good on n bass if that is what you want.

He thinks (as do I, that Dre are are a style /image thing and little to do with sound) next year it will be something else..

Thanks for all your help, I will certainly look into your recommendations.
I was under the mistaken impression that the Dr Dre ones had something extra / better tone / sound-blocking, so I'm glad to know that they are more style over substance.
    I love this forum!

  • Did you choose anything? I just broke my old panasonic over-ear headphones and want something around the £30 mark

These seem to be the best I can find for that sort of price - http://www.whathifi.com/review/sennheiser-hd-202

I've got a pair of AKG K450. It is quite good for £40
But mid-range and trebles is not good enough.

What sort of price range you are after?

The Sennheiser HD 202's are remarkably good at the price, and are used widely in TV edit suites. 'Dr Dre' ones, unsurprisingly, are not. Quite why anyone would imagine that a rap producer would know the first thing about making headphone drivers staggers me. Really, they're not that great. Quite how they branded them as the 'to-have' headphones is amazing - compare them with the HD202's and you'll not fall for the hype.
