I try to avoid wheat where possible because it upsets me. I just need to get my packed lunch mojo back :) I got free breakfast at work and superb free lunch at a legal seminar today. I didn't want a kiss from the crack addict and tried to duck away but in the end it was easier to accept a peck on the cheek.

Am pondering a short holiday this summer, depending on the payrise/bonus situation. We're tied to school holidays as DH is a teacher, I don't do heat, and we'd have to find someone willing to look after the cats for a few days (and be paid), but say 4 nights away is looking reasonable. Will ask a colleague tomorrow about her holiday last year to Slovenia, as it sounds beautiful with lots of historical interest. Apparently there's an amazing cave system at Porojna.

Don't think I can cope with another year without a break; the only nights I've spent away from home in 7 years have been in hospital or looking after Mum. At this stage I don't mind if it puts my DFD back a month or two; I'll be dead on my feet by August. DH is on board with the idea in principle, although he's not a natural holidayer and his passport has expired.

Fence is done - top-notch. Will give him a glowing review on Ratedpeople.

A cheque for £80+ winging its way to me from musicmagpie. A further cheque to come.

In agony with my neck - have just ordered a new orthopedic mattress, as our old one is at least a decade old. Just got to get through the next week, but it had to be done.

Slovenia is beautiful, We had a week at Lake Bled a couple of years ago, Hired a car & saw lots of the area. Did a bus trip to Zagreb in Croatia, Gorgeous city & lovely people, They seemed really pleased to see tourism growing again. The mountains are beautiful, Chairlifts available if , like me, youre not an energetic person !
Its just a bad day, Not a bad life ..

Planning on incorporating a lot more veggie main meals; we've been rubbish recently at eating veg/salad. It's a shame I just stocked up the freezers with lots of meat but we'll use it up gradually, and the food budget will come down by quite a bit, I think. When my thyroid's weird I'm completely turned off by meat - i can't physically swallow it. I'm doing a beany spinach tortilla bake with salad tonight, and things like veg chilli, veg curry, jacket spuds & salad the rest of the week. Next weekend I'll do some proper meal planning.

    Really scrummy dinner:

It's not been the easiest week - my neck is so bad I've had to splash out on an orthopedic mattress which arrives on Monday. My bloodtest was a bit wonky - got 2 months to bring my cholesterol down from 5.7 to 5, so going for lowfat lots-of-veg walking-everywhere everything and 'green juicing.' If I want to avoid statins, my GP recommends a daily juice of 1/2 cucumber, 3 stalks celery and a generous handful of spinach; I suspect it'll taste like poo but I can always add an apple or carrot. Juicer arriving today at work.

Got a glucose tolerance test tomorrow at the hospital although I suspect the blood sugar results were just a blip. On the plus side, my thyroid's fine and I'm not menopausal yet. Hark at the old dear moaning about her aches and pains ;)

So it's been a bit spendy on 2 big health-related items, but I'll pay them off completely in March.

Hospital was fine - just glugged down juiced cucumber, celery, spinach, tomatoes and apple; quite nice actually. I'm surprised how salty the celery makes it. 16 hours since I last ate, and that juice has filled me up. It's an easy way to have a superhealthy breakfast, finished off with a Benecol drink.

Trying to avoid taking in a 10th cat - poor thing has a massive abcess on her head and looks as if she's about to give birth. The neighbour put her in his shed with a bed and water, and the RSPCA are coming this afternoon, but she's got out so I hope they can catch her again. Dear little thing. He says she's been hanging around the back of his massive shed for months but I hadn't seen her before.

Neighbour has caught the cat again and is taking her to the vet to see what's what. She jumped into the box the RSPCA left and is purring and rubbing her head on anyone who'll give her a fuss. I've fallen in love with her; she's such a sweetheart. I've given DH The Look, which means I'll get my way and she'll be coming to live with us, depending on what the vet says. I'm not convinced she IS pregnant, seeing her in daylight - it may just be that she's so malnourished with a bulging tummy.

No go with the cat - they had to put her to sleep. Very old, the abcess was a tumour, and the enlarged tummy was her liver and kidneys packing up. At least she got some love and some decent food before a peaceful end.
