Now I know why Tayyabs is cheap - revolting food. Worst restaurant meal I've ever had. By the time we were done, people were queuing down the street to get in, but I have no idea why.

Very pleased - quoted £200 to fix the fence including £100 materials. Nice young landscape gardener, coming next Saturday. He likes cats which is always a bonus in our house.

Uh-oh - the neighbour's just told me there's a cat with a massively infected ear been wandering in our garden, and it's not one of ours. I've been out to have a look but can't see it. It'll have access to our shed for shelter if it needs it. Really not keen to take on a 10th cat, so if we manage to catch it I'll have a ring round the rescue charities.

Thought I'd post a couple of pics of my derelict garden if I can get photobucket to work - I've got my work cut out this year ... the missing fence at least will get sorted next weekend, and the rest will be done as an when my back allows.

Not a great deal to report financially - on track with debt reduction but have fallen off the wagon a bit in terms of taking food to work due to extreme busyness, so need to get back on track. I'm doing my main eating at work and getting home too late and not hungry for dinner. Finding it quite hard to factor in study time so am going to have to devote my weekends to it. I can cope with everything as long as my sleep stays on track - 2 good nights so far.

Possibility career-wise to be seconded part-time to other areas in our overall department, and the possibility of overseas travel - I've been given responsibility for financial crime analysis and local provisions versus legislation for France, South Africa, Dubai and Abu Dhabi so far. So lots of excitement there; due for an appraisal discussion next week when I can bounce ideas with the boss on broadening my experience. Fortunate to have a boss so keen to develop me for more senior positions, and am currently mentoring a young Canadian intern for 6 months, which is going well. Not expecting great shakes in the payrise/bonus stakes, but they'll tell us next month or in April what we're getting (if anything).

Fence confirmed to be done this Saturday morning. Quite excited about that. Had a general bloodtest yesterday because they couldn't find my last thyroid results - here's hoping there's nothing horrible lurking. My blood pressure's reasonable which is always good news.

So far 2013 is going well, and I have an overall plan for where I want to be in all areas by the end of the year.

Had a weird experience yesterday - accosted by a (I presume) crack addict on the way into work. Pleasant chap (felt sorry for him with crusty blood coming out of his ears and nose, and teeth worse than Shane McGowan) and he insisted on kissing me on the cheek once we'd finished our chat. Really didn't want to know what was in the little packet he was holding - I'm vehemently anti-drugs.

I'm absolutely rubbish at preparing lunch to take to work, I've never managed to keep it up. But since I started using the kitchen at work to make sandwiches during my lunch break I've been doing much better. There's a freezer so I freeze the bread and use the toaster to defrost it, so it's really a toasted sandwich. Could you do that?

p.s. I'm sure your crack addict was lovely but please don't let any more kiss you, I'm worried you'll get hepatitis!
