    I love these recipes:

    http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3563/sticky-apple-sausage-and-bacon

both are lovely and warming, easy to do and have a wonderful richness about them that give them a lovely festive feel
the first would work with veggie sausages ( the linda mc ones are on offer at farmfoods at the moment)
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions
  • How about something like a venison casserole? You don't need much meat, as it's very rich, but a bit different and Christmassy.
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...
  • My hubby has asked for a sausage cassarole on Christmas day this year, so im getting venison and wild boar sausages for that how would that go down with roasties and veg for the veggies do a veggie cassarole.

Last year DS2 made a lovely reindeer stew (reindeer meat from Lidl). Because it's quite rich, you don't need a big portion, and it goes nicely with simple mashed potatoes and veg.
  • I called in Lidl today for cello for hampers. I've not been in for ages & was surprised to see both venison & reindeer for sale there. They are really giving Aldi a run for their money this year I think!
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker :)

My standby entertaining meal is Nigella's MOroccan Lamb tagine with pomegranate and red onion relish. It's so so easy it's untrue, not that expensive, very yummy and the pomegranate and red onion would make it look a bit christmassy!

A quick google will find it easy. I normally do it with mash not cous cous though.
  • It does depend what the people you'll be cooking for would like - there have been some great suggestions already though. :) We normally visit relatives on Christmas Eve and are grateful just to be fed, but if it was my turn to cook I know exactly what I'd do.

Any kind of pasta bake - either cheese or meat depending on the guests and most likely made from Toulouse or other strongly flavoured sausage. While the oven is on I'd have a pudding baking for after - something like a bread and butter pudding with orange zest and cinnamon - any Christmas scents - added. The main focus is something tasty and filling so any merrymaking will leave less of a sore head on Christmas morning!

There's a fab veggie dish in Sarah Ravens Xmas book. I couldn't find it online the other day, as I looked for a friend, I've scanned it out of the book for her, so I'll see if I can PM you the recipe.

It's basically a big tray roast of veggies with spices and chickepeas and lentils with feta cheese.

Nope can't figure out how to attach a file, if you want the recipe ask and i'll type it out later!

never used it myself, so can't say what it does for the dish, but many tagine recipes dont use it, so I'd probably leave it out

Love how that article tactfully leaves out the most interesting thing about Argan oil....
