Buying a Contract for someone else...
Hello,
I recently bought my colleague a contract phone through Carphone Warehouse on the Orange network.
Phone is in my name and payments come out of my business account. The phone is a great tool and has made life much easier for both of us. I trust colleague implicitly not to run up huge bills etc and he has insured the phone under his own name.
BUT, everytime he wants to DO anything to the phone and has to contact Orange, they refuse to speak to him. Surely there's a way around this? People must buy other people phones all the time, especially at Xmas??
If I want to keep paying, can I transfer the phone into his name?

You can add him as an authorised user; you may have to do this in writing so as to indemnify Orange from acting on his instructions.
You'll need to check if Orange allow transfers of ownership, if so, it'll be subject to a credit check on your colleague.0 -
The simplest way is to assign the contract to him - if he passes the check, it is a done deal. This shifts the risk to him, and he can do as he likes. You can pay into the account as you see fit.
A much better solution to the one you currently have.0 -

My wife hated talking to three - so we phoned up and added myself as an 'authorised user' - so i had my own set of passwords ect. Makes life a lot easier0
