Blocked sewer

I have recently suffered with sewage leaking into the bathroom. I contacted a localplumber who informed me that the drain was blocked. He would not unblock it. The sewerpipe is an internal one. An inspection of the manhole did not show a blockage, so I called out Dynorod.
They attended and identified there was a house brick lodged in the sewer pipe, in the part of the pipe that was United Utilities responsibility. They charged me £205, and told me to call UU.
UU attended and unblocked the sewer by removing the brick.
I have asked UU to reinbuse me the £205. They refused saying, if I had called them first they would have removed to obstruction free of charge.
Has anybody else been in this situation, and if so how was it resolved.
Thanks in advance

There have been several cases on MSE of people calling Dynarod or similar for a problem that was another agency's(council or water company) responsibility.
I don't believe any of them got a refund. I don't think you have any 'legal' claim as it was your mistake, but you could try for a goodwill refund.
Under recent legislation, the water companies have far more reponsibility for drains/sewers.0 -
If you had internal sewer flooding you can get compensation from UU - I had external sewer flooding a few times and they gave me around £200 each time - I think it's more for internal flooding.0
