I'm moving house but am in debt with E.on. Do i have to settle up before we go?
Or can i carry the debt over to the new house. I don't know who the supplier is of the new house yet but if it isn't E.on could i just switch to E.on straight away when i get there and continue to pay off my debt plus our normal consumption like we are doing now? If anyone has any ideas? Thank you

Yes, that's doable.
If your new home is with the same supplier, they can transfer the debt to the new account and split it if needed.
If your new home isn't, you may need to pay some installments until the switch completes at which point you can transfer it over.
They are likely to want it paying but there shouldn't be an issue doing it this way.
If the new home is a PPM, they won't want to do it as it complicates matters.
The Eon reps will be able to give you a full answer on their policy but with other suppliers it is done.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Hi LeeLee
Terry's spot on. If we supply your new home on a credit meter, the debt can be transferred to the new account.
You will, though, need to ask us to do this. We need your permission to make the transfer.
We'll also ask you to set up a payment arrangement to include the debt and to cover the ongoing usage at the new property. The debt can be spread over a manageable period of time.
It's a little different if the new property has prepayment meters but still possible to sort.
If we don't supply the new property, a payment arrangement can still be set up to cover the existing debt. This will stop any follow up.
Should you subsequently decide to switch to us, as Terry says, we'll ask you to set up a payment arrangement for the existing debt whilst the change goes through. Usually takes between 4 to 6 weeks to complete. Again, this will stop follow up.
Once the new account is live, the remaining balance can then be transferred.
Best to contact us when you move and let us have meter readings. This will let us close your existing account accurately. We can also discuss the outstanding balance at this point.
Good luck with the move. Hope all goes well.:)

When you move, the supplier will prepare a final bill for your current address.
That will become payable immediately unless you agree with the supplier to either a repayment plan or for them to transfer the debt to a supply at the new address as you propose.
It may be better paying off that final bill (perhaps using a low rate loan) and getting cheaper energy from another supplier rather than thinking you are getting a cheap loan but paying for it by high energy costs which will delay you getting out of debt even longer.
Use a comparsion site to find the best deal for you at your new address. Also consider visiting the Debt Free Wannabe board and posting your SoA (details in a sticky theread thereon) if you wish more advice on how to address your current debt.0
