Expired broadband - MAC required ?

If my previous broadband contract ended, say, 3 weeks ago and I am approaching a different provider will I still need a MAC code?

I have read elsewhere that where the contract ends the broadband is removed from the line and needs to be reactivated so in my situation this will not be a transfer but a new bb line?

Anyone know?

Thanks

You have read wrong. When a contract term expires then you fall back to that company's standard terms, which is effectively a 30-day rolling contract. (i.e. you have to give them 30 days notice of terminating the contract).

If leaving an existing supplier then get a MAC anyway. Whether you need to use it depends on who you are going to ... MAC codes tend not to work going to or coming from a full LLU service (like Sky or TalkTalk).

But you can always contact the retentions department of your current ISP and negotiate a new contract deal, assuming you're otherwise happy with them. :)

Thanks, my situation is slightly different from the norm.

My provider was Orange on their free deal which they are ending so they are turning it off any day now. I am in no rush to find a new provider so was wondering what would happen with regards a MAC code if I was to approach another provider in a few week

Have you read the Big Thread about Orange free BB? Do you still have a contract mobile with them? If yes then all it takes is a phone call to get the free BB extended until the end of your current contract. ;)

I have read it yes.....I ended my mobile phone contract with them a couple of years ago but the free bb has continued till now (when I phoned to end my phone contract I did mention the broadband but was just told to wait on them contacting me but they never did....till recently)

So back to my original question, if Orange turn it off and I then go to a new provider is this a transfer and MAC needed or new bb?

    Thanks
