After a brief conversation in which I explained I felt I had been mis-sold as I am subsequently aware (as were they at the time) that CPP cover was already in force via my bank they upheld my complaint and have stated that I will receive a cheque for subscriptions and interest within 7-10 days.
Do you mean that you had taken out a CPP (or similar) policy via your bank or that your bank covered fraudulent losses (as they have to) also covered by the CPP policy? There is a bit of a difference in my mind. I'm not trying to defend them, but CPP covers more than just what the bank is obliged to. I did not take out my policy (not with CPP but that's irrelevant) to cover fraudulent losses, I was well aware that they were already covered by my bank, it was for the other benefits offered. Whether they are worth the money can be argued, but that's a different matter.

  • Hi,

I have been paying CPP Card Protection for my Barclaycard since 2009 (£39.99 annually) so I contacted Barclaycard directly for a refund. They passed me through to the claims department and I made my case that I had been missold the plan. They said that the claim would be reviewed and I would be contacted within 5 days, with a view to reach a decision within 40 days. They proposed to pay for the call as well as refund the £12 fee which I had been subject to after the CPP payment had caused my balance to exceed my credit limit.

That was two weeks ago, and last week I was refunded all the CPP payment since 2009 on my Barclaycard, about £160. Plus Barclaycard mentioned that I would need to contact CPP directly in order to cancel the plan and avoid additional annual payments.

For once I found that a quick and smooth resolution had been reached and I was rather happy with Barclaycard for taking steps in my interest.

This judgement was fairly soured by a message from Barclaycard today saying that my credit limit has been reduced by £100.

Good luck to all the other pawns out there.

    Hi All

I contacted CPP about the policy that I have had since about 2001. Their written response stated that their records show that MBNA (with whom I have a credit card) sold me the policy and so my issue is with them. I will therefore be contacting them.

Does anyone know though if there is a standard letter, or what the expectation of refunds is?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
  • After 25 minutes on hold I managed to cancel my policy and get a breakdown of the amounts I have paid over the years - £149 since Nov 2006. I recieved a letter about my renewal a few days ago. This is the first and only time I've been advised it would be renewed automatically.

The person I spoke to basically refused to process or talk about any sort of refund on payments or compensation claims. I was told that they will be writing to any customers which they believe will be affected and thats how they are able to deal with and address them. The person was not able to give any sort of time scale as to when these letters will be sent. Suffice to say I'm not holding my breath.
  • RESULT!!
My CPP Identity Protection was due for renewal in November. Just before renewal date, I phoned them to say that I would not be renewing because of the adverse publicity.
The policy had been in operation since 2005. They said that it had probably been sold to me via my bank , but said they would look into it.
I envisaged having to claim from my bank, but within 3 weeks, i had a letter from CPP saying that they were unable to listen to the phone call when I had been sold the policy because they only retain copies of the phone calls for 5 years.
Accordingly, they were going to uphold my complaint and reimburse me to the tune of £620!!
That sum included interest , paid at 8% (simple) - although the interest had income tax deducted.
I think that was a good result for one simple phone call.

I was a customer March 06 - March 2011, I cancelled last year when I realised it was worthless, they tried to keep me on by saying what would I do it I lost my cards and someone spent on them, I said then I'd ring the card companies as they cover this, cheeky sods! It's good to know I can claim it all back for a non service, I'll be ringing them this week.
