Perfect 40th present for the lady of my life.

I have about £500 - £700 to spend on a special present for my wife. If you knew your hubby / boyfriend was spending this amount what would be top of your wish list.

The girls at work are telling me jewellery but she is dripping in the stuff. Anyother special idea out there or is it another trip to mapin & webb !!

Thank you

    A surprise weekend away?

We're nearly at $2 per pound today and there are generally good deals on flights to New York around...

Or Paris or Rome if you'd rather spend less on getting there and more on spending while you're there?

Trip in a hot air balloon- but hurry, the seasons for it are quite short in this country.

Something that means something to the both of you? Maybe take her away to the place you first met or where you proposed?

I would go with something "memory making". For my 40th, my hubby booked us into a really expensive hotel for a night with a meal. It was one that everytime we drove past, I used to say " I'd love a night in there". It was great to know that he does listen to me, but he said he only did it to shut me up!! For that amount of money I would love a weekend in Venice, or Rome etc

I would like an event rather than expensive jewellery - a suprise holiday or posh meal out would be a nice suprise.

We are getting a local artist to paint the view out of our window as a present for my dad as he loves to sit and look at it in the Autumn - perhaps there is a local artist who could do a picture/sculpture for you?

For my 40th. My other half gave me a dvd player with surround speakers. I hadn't asked for it he just chose it.

I love watching films so it was just perfect.

Although I am a very practical person and like useful presents. For my 21st my friends bought me an electric kettle :o

I think the main thing is to think about what sort of things she's interested in. If she's dripping in jewellery then chances are she likes it. Also how does she feel about turning 40? If she's happy enough then a a constant reminder like jewellry will be OK.
If she's not too keen then having to say "Yes I got it for my 40th" everytime someone admires her necklace, not so good.
